No one mentions any of the vehicles speeding, they simply state the facts, that it was a combined speed of 120km/hr, which would more than likely be fatal, I would hate to have been in either car if the had a head on.
Mostly to do with Crumple zones and what happens to the energy of the impact.
Its been done to death before, you can search for it if you like.

But lets try not to get into this debate again.
