Reckon they are better off in a half-quick SUV. Higher ground clearance and plastic cladding make them a bit more urban-proof for crossing medians and curbs. The higher driving position gives better visability when responding in an emergency.

Always thought something like a AWD 2.0 Ecoboost Escape would be a good response vehicle. I know the Volvo XC60 T5 SUVs were very popular when the NSW highway patrol was using them, all wheel drive was handy on wet grassy verges and responding on dirt roads.

SA Police use AWD Commodores as general duties cars, maybe they may make more a good compromise between general duties and highway patrol. No more factory bull bars on the Commodore though, so some rural locations have swapped to hiluxes.
