Yes, I understand that, but I think you've missed my point. We use petrol as a source of power for vehicles. We use gas to generate heat (power). But we don't call those plants power plants. The product a coal fired power station delivers is electricity which is then used as a power source.
For the record, I'm an electrical engineer and work at a coal fired power station, so I'm pretty au fait with the concept of electrical power.
