Once you add up materials time and labour your at $500, plus to do a 1 off job takes from the real money jobs, booth time is the same for 1 panel as it would be for a full side, so a profit of $350 out of it is pretty much in the ball park, especially if they guarantee their work.

True. I found that out when trying to get a front guard painted. Most shops charge $1k otherwise not interested.
For anyone in Perth I did find a shop in Wangara that was $660 for my front guard. On my old BMW E34 the top of the guard was all crazed from old repairs - the rest of the 30+ year old Alpine White 2 factory paint was good (single stage thick paint), but where ever it was repaired locally during it's life using clear coat etc was stuffed.
On top of that I had scraped the wheel arch on the garage door, on top of that I had a dent on the bottom of the front door I asked to fix and blend in.
Gasoline panel and paint did in for $660 in 3 days. I found them by luck and they were doing a complete resto on a kombi van when I went there, and a couple of utes (you can se pics on their facebook page). Minis, custom vans and so on.
They had more interest on working on the E34 than any regular paint shop did.
