So: My car was appraised at $5670 market value without the collision damage (BA series 2 ute, factory one-tonne tray back, factory-correct alloys, heavy duty tow bar, column shift with bench seat). I think it’s actually not far off the mark IRL, as a car you might find for $3800 is likely to need a few things that mine has addressed - like tyres, ball joints, expansion tank.

AAMI paid out $5170, the net salvage value to them being assessed as $500. Possibly they forgot to deduct the rego surrender value, as I retained title.

I’m confident the repair will be achieved within this sum.
