Honestly think the time has come and gone for big money Australian cars. $50k to $100k over maybe for a GTF or GTSR. Sprints aren't really switching hands for as much as I thought they would be.
It's a great time to buy one with prices at their lowest in a while.
The difference between the GTHO and hardtops were that there were much less put away as others have said. Plenty have put away modern FPVs in the hope to cash in. That means you'll get them cheaper.
Get the XR8 and enjoy the car and maybe put a set of Shockworks on it to make the suspension more livable on the road. A decent set of MPS4S tyres and you'll have a 100 smiles a minute.
But do not buy one as an investment in the hope it'll hold or appreciate in value.
