Not that I'm complaining here because its what makes Mustang so special, but I think Ford's cheapness is what has kept the Mustang's V8 naturally aspirated. Considering the EcoBoost tech they went heavily into, I kind of expected to see a smaller capacity EcoBoost V8 from them by now. I'm guessing with how physically large the Modular/Coyote V8 is, it would have meant wholesale changes to the Mustang engine bay, which would mean BIG money. The engine bay panels have been carried over from S550 to S650, which had evolved from S197...........sound familiar.
I sort of agree with you on the Flat-6 thing. They sound very rough at idle and at low revs, and I don't particularly like the sound of them when turbocharged, that includes ALL 911 Turbo and GT2 models, as well as the 3.0 Turbo that has been the base engine for years now. But...................those GT3 and GT4 engines are to die for, especially the GT4 RS and that manic 8000 to 9000 rpm rush. Although, the exhaust sound is a bit meh, its the cabin noise that counts.
