Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.
Default Re: JH Cruze 1.8 Knock

Back together and driving. Initially had a timing mismatch fault code of P0016.

Swarf from (I believe) variator failure, had heavily blocked the intake cam solenoid. It was removed, dismantled, cleaned out - the fine screens disintegrated - and refitted after briefly cranking the engine to flush out extra swarf so much as practicable (oil everywhere, just after I’d degreased it all!).

Fault code now gone. I think the solenoids are on the discharge side of the variator hubs (hence the swarf) and when the solenoid was jammed from debris it caused a mismatch of timing signals. Ominously there was also a little swarf on the exhaust cam side.

I think also the transmission is not 100% - it’s a bit iffy but no stored codes - going to try a full drop/fill with attention to the oil level. If anyone has experience with the 6T30 or 6T40 boxes re oil level, I’m interested to hear your thoughts.
