no pics on this story but my GF's sister was renting a house here locally a couple of years ago and it had a coupe shell in the backyard with a V8 still in it.
the V8 was full of water and was rooted to say the least but the shell wasnt too bad, savable by any means, except for the fact it had 5 years of dog poop in it from around the yard. the owner didnt want it but was adamant that it was to stay in the yard at all costs. |

I was talking to a bloke that stop up to talk to the old guy that owns it. He is not interested in how much it's worth and is sick of rich bastards from the GT club going and offering stupid amounts of money for it and expecting him to jump at it. They will never get to buy it as he'll never sell it to them sort of people. The fella I was talking to talk to the old bloke for a few hours which the old bloke seemed to like. Not like the snobbs that try and offer big money and then ****off as soon as its declined. I wouldn't be surprized that the old bloke proberly sells it to somebody that took abit of time to talk to him and got to know him instead of waving money. You will proberly find out later that he'll sell it for much less then he has been offered because he's not interested in money, he would rather let go to somebody with a decent heart and not a moron from a GT club. :togo: :evil3:

One can only hope the car will be saved and, importantly, with the current owners blessing!!

Does anyone have the contact details for this coupe? Is it still there? PM me if you do and I'll go and have a chat with him.
I'm west of Brisbane but I've never been able to see it.

He may be holding on to it for sentimental reasons, but if the car is still there I'm more than happy to hang around for a few hours talking about it - even if he doesn't want to sell (i'll be asking if ever would but..). I know for a fact that he's been offered 75k for it. The likelyhood is that he's been pestered about it that many times that he just couldn't be bothered in selling. Would still be interesting finding out more about the car.

Well it probably is still sitting there, but who say's it's unloved, as this site is known for people saying,
It's his car, his money, he can do as he pleases with it.... |

If you really wanted to save the car you should offer to help him restore it.
I guess he probably has no capacity to pay for the cost of doing so, but I think that approach would more likely work. I am not at all surprised by his desire to keep it. I think it is a very human thing to do. Just such a waste I would be sad to hear that someone has done a number on him though, so anyone reading this please remember karma's a b&#ch |

The owner wont sell. The offer was closer to $100k a few years back during the boom
Its a $100k restoration done properly, $130k if farmed out to the big shops. |

Yeah, noted.
Maybe he could be talked into carrying out some basic steps to stop it decaying any further. He probably wouldn't trust anyone when it comes to his car now but |

I do remember a guy in the USA writing in a magazine who had bought a rare coloured 440 engined 1970 Roadrunner that was sitting in a ladies back yard, that had belonged to her dead husband. It had an impact in the front right hand corner, and was sitting there in the open, not too rusty, definitely worth saving and an easy resto. She too "would never sell", and what triggered my memory was the way she too thought people from clubs were "arrogant" for just waving fistfuls of money at her.
The guy bought the car by getting to know her first by just asking about the car casually, without mentioning buying it. He said he could supply her with some info on the car if she liked. After a couple of visits, he asked if she would consider selling, and she said now she "wasn't really sure", and had previously mentioned the uncaring car club guys with money. The guy sealed the deal by giving her a gift he had made...he bought two plastic 1/24 models of the same type of Roadrunner, and done one as an exactly detailed diorama of her back yard with the damaged car sitting in it, and the other of it in pristine restored condition sitting in a garage. It worked, and she sold it to him for way less than the club guys were offering, but still a fair price for a slightly damaged big block Roadrunner. There's ways around some people...not all of them...but some who might be wavering. But then there are ****** who just will not sell no matter what and would rather see it rot into the ground than someone else own it... |

Yep, I've got no intention of trying to make him sell. If he does, eventually I think it would be good. But judging from what I'm finding out about it, I dont think that he ever will. I think it would be just interesting to have a chat and talk about it.
Besides.. there's no way I can match anything that's previously been offered.

it would be interesting to yarn with him and find out the cars history for sure. but everyone needs to remember that its his car and it obviously means something to him, he probably dosnt like having his life exposed to the world on the big wide web. i dont blame him . if you did get to talk to him you could offer to get a few cans of fish oil and put in the panels for him to help preserve it.

I understand the sentimentality the guy has
My brother has a green XB 302 coupe, rotting away in the back yard with only 180k on the clock ( 2nd owner ), he will never sell it and it will never get restored as he doesnt have the cash. It was his first car and he loves it, just cant let it go. It truly is a sad sight, I'll have to take some snaps and put em up one day.
