I'm not sure if this has been posted before, since its quite old, but I was wondering if anyone had ever seen this before. Looks good, but I don't think it would really be worth the time and cost involved.

36k build to have an AU1! Hopefully it has some decent engine work etc - otherwise how that build could be justified over grabbing even a new NA XR6 and chucking some rims on is beyond me.

never seen it before.
kudos for the effort but what a waste of time and money! extended the wheel base......$36k in the project so far.... would have been easier to fit an AU interior into a BA than do what they did. |

everyone seems to miss the point, mods are not about cost. it is about being different and if the owner likes the finished product it is worth it to him. not what I would do but still an interesting project

Realistically though, how different is a BA XR6 with rims and stripes? I think I see one every few days.

Also you'd have a BA with the stronger diff .... or an AU that's like a B-series ... but without the weak diff.

If you ask me, that is one hell of a job done by the panel shop. Waste of money yes, but jeez thats a good job.

waste of money and time when for 36k you could buy and xr6 and have 10k left over for mods ie wheels lowered and performance

Waste of a good AU.
It's his cash but IMHO Should have saved his cash and bought either a BAXR6 if thats what he wants (you can do that for 36K) or a T3 TE50 if he wants a trick AU. Now that would work..

they touch on the fact that it has the live axle diff, to handle a hipo V8, my money is that that was a big part of the reason it was done. i doubt the chassis pick up points for the live axle suspension would be there on a BA.
they say 36k has been spent on the whole car, not on just converting it to look like a BA. good luck to the owner, hopefully it all works out how he wants..... he's got a great base to mod now though! |

have any of you also thought of this car as a moving advertisement for his business?..
a chance for the ppl who would use his services to see the work he can do.... and as was stated... a big HP V8 would make it different again |

Chances are the point of the entire project was to showcase what the shop can do, and each time an AU owner comes in with a smash front end... simply point to the AU/BA hybrid out the front.. wink wink.

A showcase of the example of the workmanship displayed is surely more intrinsically valued than the $36k that was spent on the entire process.
I like the idea behind the project, unique unto its own.

Shouldve just checked an AU2 XR front end on a BA XR, that would keep most people happy. As for putting BA stuff on an AU, Id limit that to just badges.
