Hey all,
Was looking to trade in the old EF Fairmont auto for something else as it's slowly dying on me. Stumbled accross a few AU's and they caught my interest. Was looking at the xr6 and xr8 models. What would the overall recommended model be? I couldn't seem to find any major differences between these two, besides the v6 to v8. I was looking at the $10k-$15k mark. Also are there any resources around that outline the specifications for each model and series (I think I recall there were 3 series all up)? Had a look around for ages but came up dry, must be searching in all the wrong places. Cheers |

For a little more $17k you could get a T1 or T2 TE50 that would be a bit special. But then I'm biased.
Alternatively a Fairlane / LTD low with big rims look very cool.

Its more a matter of the differences in the series 1,2&3. You will find series 2&3 models are the highly recomended as the saftey, power and options are improved. Depends if your wanting a v8 or a more fuel friendly car then the xr6 would do quite nicely.

I just bought a 02 series 3 XR8 for $14k. For the money, your getting a decent car with reasonable performance.
As said, get atleast a series 2. Heaps better brakes, better looking centre dash and exterior, more power etc |

Tedricks,
there are AU brochure scans here on the forums http://www.fordforums.com.au/photos/...ry.php?cat=504 and you can have a look at aufalcon.com which also has a link from this section of the forums

personally i'd suggest a S2/3 Fairmont GHIA 5L ... there SICK, but im not baises :P ... you get leather, woodgrain, more options, luxury and you get pretty much the same engine setup as the XR8 ...
but out of your options that you have layed out, i rekon go for the XR8 ... at the end of the day, it's value's gonna hold cuz it's an XR8 not an XR6

I was in the same boat as you once upon a time Tedricks. Obviously i went the XR8 and I was lucky enough to find one in the colour I wanted with a manual.
Keep your eyes peeled I say, XR8's with the 220kw are an awesome package.

Trying to think of a reason to stick with a XR6, like mine, but the only one I can think of is they are cheaper....not much of a reason I suppose, but they are easier to get....I wouldn't buy an auto in either one....
I've had s1 XR6, s2 xr6, s2 xr8 and they are all wonderful cars, I would say get the VCT manual if you get an xr6 it comes with the irs rear and goes that bit better. But I must admit the manual xr8 was just awesome, the missus got that when she left.... The xr6 VCT is quicker low down than the pre 220kw xr8 so that might be a consideration.... |

Another vote for the 8. They just sound the goods regardless of the fuel consumption. Plus the torque is something you get easily used to. Its addictive to put the foot down and hear the v8.

I have the AUII XR8 and it has been a wonderfull vehicle to date, little thirsty in town but on the open road it is fantastic and once you hear an eight with exhaust you will never even aknowledge the inline 6.
