Unhappy shell v power making my car ping badly:(

Guys..I have tuned the car on caltex 98.It runs consistently on this fuel.I also have used mobil premium and bp without hassles. After filling up the wagon with shell vpower yesterday I swear at the moment I drove into the place. The car has lost heaps of power and is pinging like theres no tommrow.
Moral to this story is that I will never use shell again If you guys want to avoid pinging t other premium brands of fuel will give you more power and may save your engine from pinging/detonation..

I used any of the 98 fuels in my XH and couldn't notice any difference at all.
It only ever pinged with 95 or lower fuels, brand made no difference that I could detect.

Maybe you were just unlucky and had a bad batch.

Youre probably right but its a bit dissapointing when your baby starts to ping like that. I dont want to risk it. It is the first time I heard my car ping under wot.I am lucky it didnt do any noticeable engine damage.

Mine has always pinged on less than 98 since I picked it up from the dealership, was nice of them to throw a full tank in the deal, pity they had no premium when the lable on the tank says use premium : . but I have found with the Shell product the variation is all over the shop thats why i dont use there product, I even email them about the problem to be told they would send a rep out to get some samples from the offending stations. but all to late 2 weeks on now I dont leave home with out a bottle of Nulon Pro strength in the boot :thebirds:

Mate get the vaporate fuel system installed.. about $600 or so.. 1 of the best mods ive done, Their copper rings (like valve retainers) that fit around your injector nozzle. And once heated up from engine temperature turn your fuel into mist.
You get more power, better fuel economy.
And then run 95% no dramas at all...
I dont like v power much, they stuffed it when it was optimax it was great? go figure?
But now i use the caltex vortex stuff.
I always fill up when i can on Mobile synergy 8000 but that stuff is the best by far! This is using my au 2 xr8 ute as a guide

Both my daily and my turbo ping their heads off on Shell 98. My turbo is fine on BP 98, and the daily only pings a little on it.

Horses for courses, it all depends on the car. Mine likes BP and Shell but Mobil makes it ping and my economy gets even worse. Go figure.

Bp for me gives very good torquiness but it idles a bit rougher.

Dreadly..I have to see proof of the power increase of vaporite. Not saying it won't work just want to see some 1/4 mile times.
It seems to go against common knowledge. Atomised fuel will burn better in the combustion chamber but hotter fuel will tend to increase combustion chamber temps, detonation, pinging and reduce power.

Kind of like the sound you hear when you're under water and bang rocks together (sort of), only much faster than you could possably do it underwater, like machine gun speed, "tu-tu-tu-tu-tuck".

with my import I used BP 98 all the time and tried peak 98... no difference. If anything with the peak I had a bit more get up and go..

I use peak 98 with my BA and ma getting 650kms to the tank city driving

So pretty happy with that!

Heheh..I know Bluedriver. If its gonna bend snap or break then it generally happens to me. It has slowed down alot in recent times as I have been driving the car slow..My last car I had did 250 000 kays and I only changed the alternator. In 5 years I changed oil once.Never put water in it..then one day..kadooshka the dam semi trailers trash both me and the car.(might explain the loose screws )

Atomised is what it does then? look em up on the web vaporate fuel systems, only available through repco. As repco brought the rights.....
My fuel economy is great, and you gain a noticeable of power and heaps more torque...
I know you dont know me so its not like you care, But i got it installed over 18mths ago and its been great, Everyone i HIGHLY recommended it! once you have it installed the only regret you'll have is you didnt do it earlier, ive got a dvd somewhere i got with it i can send ya if you want?
cheers peter

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't BP Ultimate and Mobil 8000 come from the same place. I'm only talking about Melbourne, I can't vouch for other states. I used to deliver LPG to BP sites across Melbourne, and the tankers dropping off Ultimate to these sites had Mobil 8000 paperwork in their manifests. I always fill with Ultimate or 8000, can't tell the difference. With V-power, I just don't get the same mileage, which cancels out any savings from discount vouchers and the quality is inconsistent. Another thing that I also found out from a Petrol bowser technician, was that Mobil/BP had major contamination of their 95 octane fuel with rust from an old storage tank which they brought back on line. He was flat out cleaning out gauze filters in the bowsers all over Melb. He actually showed me the one he was fixing at the time, so I certainly wouldn't use their 95 octane fuel, at least not for quite a while. My advice to someone is: Just find a good servo that you always have good results with and stick with them. Their is so many variables that effect fuel quality, too many to list. You could have 2 of the same branded servos just up the road from each other giving you different results.

On another note, has anyone been using the United E10 95 stuff? I have been using it as it's up to 5c cheaper than regular 91. It doesn't ping too badly on my 98-tuned VCT.

I meant if I go wide open throttle. Otherwise, tootling around at 2 - 3k RPM is as normal.
