Default Shaving Rear Doors.

So, lately I've been considering keeping my AU and doing her into a show car (call it a new found love if you will).

What I've got on the cars is a Leather interior conversion (easy as pie) and to drop a 5L under the hood with all the running gear.

But I've been looking at the car and I've wanted to do something different. I mean the car gets ALOT of looks how she sits now and I'm looking at an airbag kit aswell but, what I've been thinking (by looking at the car side on) is to shave the rear doors too make her into a coupe??

Here's what it looks like to date,

So what I'm relying on here is the opinion of you guys here on which I really respect and guide alot on!. If you boys like it then I will know that I should look into it more, if you think it's a no go then I will ditch it completly out of my mind!... I just don't want it too look poxy :( .

So as I respect all of you and your opinions, What do you think?

Thanks in advance, Nathan

SHAV-ing doors?

I think the air bag kit is a winner Nath. As for the rear doors, Im not sure on. Do you mean making it a 2 door as per gilmores link or shaving the door handles and making the car handle less and openable via a remote lock?

Thanks for the link Gilmore. I'll post more about it when I've read through it lol

Shave the doors. The concept link looks great and there aren't any others getting around out there.

Hmm well if it were me going down that path, Id look at not stopping there. I'd be mini tubbing the rear, fitting some deep dish 20's and air bagging it.

Nath, I'm a fan of the 5L part and the airbag part but the 2 door part sounds odd. I think the car would just look odd unless you were too reshape the back of your roof and rear window and lengthen your front doors.

That looks so hot, but the,

Kind'ov say's that it's not worth it when I'm looking at a Bseries GT for myself next year.

I see that he has modified the back sides so that the window is smaller and slantier, I was thinking of keeping the rear window and such the door there and filling in the space/cracks.

I'm looking at around a $2grand job.

Shave handles, bags an 5l. Chromed engine bay, driveline and assorted fiddly bits. Custom leather interior, spaced out sound install an some sort of pearl overlay of original paint. Suicide rear doors, tilt back bootlid. Hard to beat at any show if done well.

If this turn's out to be a too costly exercise your above post is what is on the list to the T. Except maybe the tilt back boot lid, what is that? LOL ...

But yeah, spoken to my spray painter about the pearl over spray, and the leather to another guy and the sound system and airbags with 619 Customs. All of these places are at my cousins mod shop so it's all basically cost price for me which should save me acouple of $$$$.

i wouldnt go for shaved rear door, id shave the door handles and stuff basically make it look as smooth and simple as possible that tied in with some nice rims and it would be set.

X2. If you are getting a GT next year why waist the coin on this car?
You know you'll never get it all back. Keep it simple, easier to get rid of later.

Instead of boot lid hinging at rear window, either motorise or manually hinge it from aroud the bumper. Split fold bonnet, clear panels, billet dash and pedals... Got lots of ideas for car mods that may or may not be good ones.

shave ALL the handles mate
why do it 1/2 **** haha

I would leave the boot as it is.. its either open or closed.. no point making the panel gaps impossible to get right by hinging it in a non structural way... plus how will you show off the stereo if its opening backwards??

the airbags would be cool ..I take it you don't want to go around corners fast?
least theres a few shops who have done falcons now to give you a fairly good idea of how to do it RIGHT

as long as your interior isn't WHITE it will look good

Suicide doors will cost you a pretty penny.. (look up the MOBSTER 929 from up here in QLD.. they had to chop part of the rear 1/4 panel out to reinforce and mount the big heavy duty hinges(only using 1 hinge to make it open properly = major reinforcment)

I know cali customs did a 300c down in melb a while back looked sweet with the door handles beside each other like an old lincoln towncar

good luck!!

At the end of the day I don't know. I think it's because I want to see something different with it. I thought that the door shaving tech would only cost around the $2G mark at the most but at $30,000 I wouldn't even bother! .. But with the sound system and airbags I can take them out and reinstall them into a new car. You know what I mean?

lol@concrete

just shave all 4 handles and put pins in the door to open them. door poppers are too expensive.

but realistically. dont waste money on the car.

I think shaved door handles, airbags etc will be a big enough statement Nath. It will be well within your budget and should win some awards as a show car.

or just save the cash and by rare/unique ideas for the GT so when the time comes to get one, u can have it all done at once, and have a Unique/rare one in aus.

theres not much you can DO to a GT.. because all the bodykits etc or wheels that most people use come standard on a GT.. then theres the leather interior etc..

if you wanted to be DIFFERENT you should get an XR8 and do it up exactly how you want

or buy a financial write off GT and put it back together in your own way ie imported 5.4 or full alloy 5.0 etc so you can use all the good bits from the USA

remember the $ you spend modding the AU is probably the same price a kenne bell would cost for the GT haha
