Hi guys,
I did a search but could not find a firm answer, maybe someone here can help or point me in the right direction. I am currently in Sydney but am looking to move to Vic in about 3 years. A mate of mine has a capri with all the hard stuff done (Brakes, 9in, C4, Chassis kit and very mild 302), this car is now all but useless here in NSW but seeing as I am moving, is it still possible to get this car engineered in Victoria when I move? (assuming the laws don't change in that time). I have always wanted a Capri but prices are stupid now, this way I can work on it slowly and build it the way I want (will convert to manual). Any help/advice muchly appreciated, please no guessing, I'm after firm confirmation, maybe a contact number for a good Engineer in Vic so I can call to discuss, or is there a Vic Roads technical line I can call for confirmation? From the Vicroads website have a look at the Vehicle Standards Information bulletins VSI No. 8 - Modification Guide to start with.

I think 302 is still fine as imported factory Peranas set a precedence. Hard thing is finding an engineer willing to put his name on the certificate for a reasonable amount.

thanks for the replies, I may just start contacting a few engineers to see if its worth it. I really want to pick up this car but it will be a few years before I have it finished (wife, 2 kids, house and all...)
Hopefully get it done before they crack down any harder. If I do get it, I will be sure to start up a project thread for it. Cheers Fellas. |

hey mate im currently doing a 302 into a capri and have been told by an engineer in nsw that it is still possible to do mine was an original v6 though not sure if it helps it should be ok as long as it is not a 69 model

Just put a rover Alloy v8 in it don't worry about big old donks
Yes they are more powerful but the weight kills the handling and the rover motor is much lighter so it still handles well every land rover that comes with a V8 is completely alloy heads and block all of the old rovers you see on ebay for a couple of hundred dollars with the 3.5 are alloy too I going to be putting one in a mk2 corty in the next couple of months EFI version out of a 93 Discovery I had to replace the engine in my 4x4 and i have one sitting around looking for a rebuild i have always wanted a V8 corty so here is my chance |

Today I paid my rego and my 1972 capri V6 is now legal with its 302 cleveland C4 and 9 inch, Had it engineered by Bruce Collins in Taree the certificate cost $715, So now we know for sure that it can still be done in NSW, so if your going to do one get stuck in to it before they change any rules,

I keep hearing this about NSW no longer allowing V8 Capri's but the RTA's Guidlines for light vehicle modifications still contain a formula that equates to a 5300cc engine being the max into a Capri.
As these guidelines have not changed I for one don't believe that the rules have changed either yet people keep stating that a V8 Capri is now a no go in NSW without any evidence to back the statement up. I'm still plodding along with my 5.0 and 4 speed auto conversion. |

Can i ask who the engineer was?
I'm just looking for an engineer at the moment, and it seems that 302 windsor is over the maximum engine capacity for NCOP guidelines for vehicle modifications. |

use a 289 windsor block.. makes life so much easier when it comes to engineering.
