New Tyres

Hey Guys,

Just bought some 19" rims and two of them are good for tred but the other two are slick.

What would be a rough price for 19" tyres and where would be the best place to buy them (melbourne vic)

Cheaper the better so if you kno anyong let me know thanks

Get some Nankang NS2s - should be around $200 each. Or Kumho, Nexen, Hankook - all make reasonable tyres for a good (cheap) price. Just avoid Wanli and Luton.

Have you tried eBay? Plenty on there for under $400 a pair (or was that 18s? I can't remember). I think you'll want either a 235/35/19 or 245/35/19.

I find the nankang to be the worst tyre I have ever used had them on the AU and now there on the BA which were on there when i got the car can't weight for them to wear out. There just not grippy enough in the wet. I find dunlops to be the better of all the tyers i have tried.

On a 6, they are heaps grippy.

I find them good in all conditions, obviously due to my age I've really only regularly used probably 6 different tyres but my parents were even impressed now my mum uses them on her 18s and they crap all over the $250 Dunlops she had before that

hancook ventus are ok , not really cheap though, federals also seem ok , but a little noisier than the h/kooks.

I don't think he is too concerned about grip. Just go to your tyre shop, or better yet one of those dodgy guys that set up a tyre shop in a servo or something and ask for the cheapest 19s that will fit. You will get some horrible brand like clear or triangle or gemstone or strata or something. Should be roughly 200 a corner. And enjoy. Wet or dry.

In all seriousness buy the best you can afford and don't skimp and learn the hard way like most of us here. I am running gemstones currently and I could get wheel spin of the line and even chirp gears in my stock six. My gf's bro had 'triangle' bran and I think they were marginally worse.

I got them with my 19s. Have been ok but I only use them for plodding around the suburbs not for anything serious. Havent been noisy yet either.

im not overly caring about the grip, but still want something im not just going to slide every corner in the wet, im also prob looking at either 225 or 235 width to minimize panel damage so yer.. ill have a look around but thanks

What do you mean by that? 245s easily fit in the AU with a 19 inch wheel.

Yeah i'm running 245's on my 8.5" wide 19's wouldn't go any thinner. Might even put 255 on the rear next time.

At the moment im running Maxxis Z1's. Go really well in the wet and dry, love them, will buy again for sure. About $240 odd each from BJ iirc

+1 for Nexen. N5000s would be much cheaper than $200.

Tyerpower could do them for me in 17" for $120. I guess then for 19, they'd be round the $170 mark.

not sure if n5000s are load rated to the car, my placard says nothing under 91V and off memory i think they have a 94H rating

Yeah they are on the poor quality end of the scale but that is a cheap price for a 19 inch tyre. Interesting it says there is a lifetime manufacturer warranty. I've seen Achilles with cracked/split sidewalls after been used for a couple of years.

hmm alright then, i didnt think they were the greatest but my mate hasnt faulted them...yet. Lucky i sold off my 20s before the tyres were due for replacement, i was actually going to get 245/30s of those put on...thankfully not anymore, i value having my car in one piece

Tyres should be raplaced after 2 years or when they're bald. So cracking/splitting of a sidewall would be par for the course.

Well yeah if I was using one of the cheap brands (Nankang, Triangle, Achilles, Ling Longs etc) I would replace after 2 years regardless of wear. Normally though I think 5 years is the max life span for a tyre if you can get it to last that long. You get cars that do only 5k km a year. You wouldnt replace the tyres after 2 years in those cases unless the brand was rubbish.

If you're after something grippy in wet and dry conditions and cheap.. look for MAYRUN..
They are a silica compound tyre and when i was desperate I bought 2 for my 19's.. about 150 each IIRC..
very quiet and very grippy for a cheap tyre!!
so it turned out quite well..

I'm assuming this is for an AU? Please someone correct me if I am wrong, but I always thought the AU had a minimum load rating of 92. If that's the case, none of the above listed tyres will be suitable.

The way to see what the load rating is for your car, check the tyre placard, located on the B pillar drivers side, if my memory serves me correctly. It's either there or on the door itself.

So before commiting to tyres, check and double check the load rating. Otherwise, if you have an accident you're uninsured, or if a copper pulls you over, your car is unroadworthy.

My placard says nothing under 91V so i think 91s are still safe, last time i checked most 19'' tyres of 245 width are load rated at 93W.

As for those 'Ztech' tyres you are talking about, i think you may mean 'Zeetex'. I had them on my 20s before i sold the whole lot off (not my choice i bought them 2nd hand and they were already fitted) i would have to say they are pretty well rubbish, did 3000kms on them and they lost a good 2-3mm in tread. They also had very poor grip in the wet (my bald dunlops grip better than they did with 3mm of tread left) lucky for traction control otherwise i would have most likely wrapped it around a pole. The road noise they had was beyond describable, sounded like a bus every time i would slow down. But all in all im pretty picky and would prefer comfort for the money.
If i was you i would avoid them but your car, your choice. I now understand the dangers i never understood of cheap tyres

ok ive had a look at some reviews, all of them tyres are apparantly not to well in the noise or the grip in wet area.

heard of achilies? i can get a set of 235/35/19 for 199?

Ask around for Roadstone or aka Nexen tires. These provide reasonable grip and are decently priced. I have 18's and paid $169 per tire for 235/40/18. So 19s maybe a bit more but at least they have been around a bit longer than some of these no named brands.
