Hi,
I've got an alternator and the light on the dash keeps coming on and off for about a year now. I'm trying to get a safety cert for it and its failed on this issue. Its a motorcraft alternator with an internal regulator (I think). Could anybody suggest what could be done to get the light to go off so it will past the test? (bar replace alternator!) |

remove it maybe?
the (AU) wagon has this problem and we know its not the altenator... but we have a mate who does the roadworthy certificates for both the EF and the AU and he knows about the problem and isn't that worried about it as its only a light...

I don't know how to dispute it with the inspection station? Can I complain to the transport dept for failing me on this? I've argued with him and he wasn't budging. The car is running fine and always starts no probs, all electrics same.
Edit: sent me around the corner to his mate, auto electrician, who said it wud cost 400$ to replace but 'would have to look at it first'. wtf who said this wasnt a money making scheme |

meh.... idk, rtansw laws dont state you have to have all working lights.. if that was the case, most cars wouldn't be roadworthy...
just take it to a less-upthemselves inspector (or get your parents to, depending on age) and hope they dont notice and if they do, just say it wasn't like that when we were driving it here

Max did you get the problem sorted
Mine was doing this for about 3 months and I had taken it to have the altenator tested on metres to 3 places In the end I found out from a friend next door that the power steerin fluid was leaking onto the altenator and that was making the light come on 200 for second hand alt and 200 to fix the power sterring ! |

Hey it wasn't the same cause I had because the p/s switch is not located over the alternator on my model. I didn't manage to repair to alternator because the car sold regardless.
