the crossmember on a V6 has 3x bolts each side in different positions too,
they are not a bolt in swap, the chassis rails have anti-crush tubes fitted in the related 1600/V6 crossmember positions. the radiator shroud is in a different spot. the back upper corners of the firewall / inner guards have a small gusset on each side in the engine bay, trans tunnel is slightly different shape battery tray is in a different spot the rest is the same, as far as i can remember.

check this site out swamp rat
http://capribuyersguide.com/ pretty much explains the dead give aways however the site does not talk about the extra recess a v6 shell has to fit a wider batter tray here is a pic of the recess on a genuine v6 gt shell. Last edited by V8GT; 03-10-2011 at 06:32 PM. |

my67xr has listed some of the differences.
The V6 also has a strengthening plate inside the wheelarch on the outer side of the chassis rail that runs all the way to the front, unlike the 4cyls. This one is a bit harder to fake !! Re radiator support, it is shorter in length (from front of car towards engine) to allow for the longer motor. (and my first car was a 67 XR Falcon 500, three on tree, 200cu in, Sunlight Beige....ah, memories...) |

ive had 8 capris now,
the V6 one i cut up as no-one wanted to buy the shell, i wanted $300, only had minor rust in the lower rear qtrs, and a few bubbles in the front guards with the battery recess in the pic, the GT 1600s had that too iirc?

as far as i know only the v6 gt's had the recess to fit the bigger battery tray,
its about time a indepth guide was put on the internet.. it was not even 6 weeks ago i drove 2.5 hrs to look at a genuine v6 gt to find out its a 4 cylinder body with v6 tags and running gear in it... and to top it of the v6 tag was put on upside down |

I think the people with v6 capris are holding onto them (me included), so ones for sale are pretty hard to come by, not that it helps you though.
Maybe you could look into importing one from South Africa like the many XY's that have been. I think you will find V6 capris over there fairly cheaply, not sure about the cost of freight/importing or how you would actually do it though. Just my 2c. |

if you are looking at transplanting parts onto the body from another car why wouldnt you go for a 4 cyl body ? they are far cheaper and easier to come by. At the end of the day the car will not be original anyway so what difference does it make thats its a V6 shell or not ? My next Capri project is hopefully going to be a cossie BOB transplant from a granada but I'll simply use a 4cyl shell...
only my opinion tho' Paul |

Cossie transplant, by definition is non-standard. So yes, use a donor 4cyl shell.
Some of us pedantic purists get a bit thingy about V6s in 4cyl shells. And then there are the factory-designed strengthening things. The Essex V6 is 183kg up front, about double the 1600 Kent. "4cyl cars are parts donor cars"... he he he |

100% agree with you, however im wanting to build a v6... and at the end of the day if its v6 running gear in a 4 cylinder body.. its not well a v6 gt if you get what im saying...
im in no rush as i have a v8 capri project on the go at the moment.. however i will just continue collecting parts for the day when i get one i suppose... anyway if anyone has any leeds to one preferably in qld, nsw, vic let me know cheers |
