Default Just had to fill my tank Aghhh...

Just had to fill my tank Aghhh...
I haven't had to fill up with petrol since 2006.
I use to get some everynow and then to help run my dual fuel AU.
But now I'm 'straight' again I filled up a gas tank to the brim for the first time in a while. When payed I needed 2 $50 notes and not that much change came back.
Bugger I'm use to handing over $30..
On the joy of owning a V8.
UK
PS I do love my new ride..

I know how you feel. I've just had to drive back from Melbourne on petrol, it's the first time since 2006 that I've had to fill a petrol tank. Thank god the car will be getting the gas system from my other Sportsman put on by the end of the week. Oh, just in case you're confused, I just went and picked up a second Sportsman that I got Kristo to pick up for me. I flew to Melbourne yesterday morning and picked it up. I just arrived home back on the EP this evening, 1400km and $200 worth of petrol later.

Bushbasher

PS. I'll post up about my little adventure tomorrow and a couple of pics but right now I need some sleep.

UK, I missed what you have bought? Photos or thread? Please point me in the right direction.

Ptff - change from two 50s. Try filling with >$1.70 98 Octane. 2 x 50s + a bit!

Chin up Ken. The exhaust note is worth it!

And anyone who feels the urge to whine about fuel prices can move to the bush for a while. I'm currently funding my bank managers vacation in the Bahamas.

Not whining re fuel prices, rather types of fuel. I think we should have a reverse rebate now for petrol.

Actually having a v8 and a six myself i find my driving style in the 8 has changed a bit,
i find myself cruising extra smoothly all while enjoying smugly ............that burble moving off from the lights in the v8 and getting pretty fair economy , that standard V8 burble is worth 5 litres per hundred k's so really we are getting like close to ford focus economy.......... you guys with the higher specced XR8/GS/GT must be getting better than prius economy !
you must be ecstatic UK !!! .

Try owning an explorer. 320km last tank. Took 77 litres to fill (it has 85 capacity but may not have been quite full previous time, so fuel economy is not that bad - we actually get about 20l/100km) @$1.55 a litre for E10 blend. So that was your 2 fiddies and a lobster! And we'll have to do the same next week. Oh well......the sound is worth it.

I've got two responses to catch up with here . . .
1/ I've just returned from a road trip BNE-ADL-PER-ADL-BNE, and the cheapest petrol for the entire trip was in outback NSW, around Parkes and the like. Was about 25c per litre cheaper than BNE, the most expensive capitol city in Australia to buy petrol.

and 2/ My question is, "Why fill up?", I always (unless driving long distance) just fill to about half a tank. I don't want to spend a significant amount of fuel simply lugging the full tank around, all the while reducing your performance as well. Do you realize how much a full tank of fuel weighs?

Pulling in to top-up more regularly is not a problem, which I mostly do in the late evenings or early mornings, when the fuel is cool-in-the-ground, and I get more fuel for my money.
That's because the local service station pumps do not adjust the volume delivered for temperature variations, which means when the fuel slightly warms up, it expands and you don't get the correct volume of fuel you pay for.
So, don't refuel in the heat of the day (or early evening), or as/shortly after the fuel company tanker has delivered a new load of (warm) fuel.

Why do you think jet airliners calculate very carefully the amount of fuel they carry, it costs to carry to much!

Cheers,
4ford

Hmm, I've been driving up the Newell daily for the last 10 years and Parkes is not and has never been cheaper... especially by not by 25c. !!

The cheapest fuel on the Newell would be Gondiwindi.

According to AAA, Brisbane is consistently the 4th most expensive (behind Darwin, Hobart and the ACT.)

At highway speeds, the difference between a full tank of fuel and an empty one would be so negligable it would not be able to be measured.

This is a great post. I think I might print it our and put it up inside one of the fuel terminals in Melbourne.

Keep wearing that tin foil hat, it’ll save you one day.

I don’t have time to respond to each paragraph here as I have to head out, but I will when I get a chance.

Are you serious? Wouldn't want to give anyone a lift then would you - too much weight. Better not buy groceries and carry them home in the car - too much weight. A full tank of fuel weighs around 80kg. Half a tank weighs about 45kg (How do I work that out - the tank has a base weight). in a 21600kg car, the difference to perfomrnace is minute. It would possibly only be in the 1/10ths L per 100km and as for performance, it might be in the 1/10000s to 100km. And comparing the fuel a car carries to the thousands of a litres an airplane carries? Seriously? WTF!

Try this on as a counter argument - every time you slow down or speed up in a V8, you use more fuel than simply cruising at a nice even 60, 80 or 100. So by filling up with fuel more regularly, you are actually wasting any perceived savings by having to accelerate to get up to speed again! Not to mention the time factor - my time can be better spent driving a car to do the things I want to do rather than stoppong evey 100km or so to splash and dash it so I get "better" economy and performance.

OMG - I actually don't even know why I bothered replying - but I've typed it now so might as well hit "submit reply".

Y'all musn't drive too much because i'd imagine owning a six or eight on petrol in the 21st century would bleed you dry before long!

Personally i'm still annoyed that I can't reasonably fill up and pay with coins...
