While there is a lull in FG X sightings or info I thought we would reflect on past Falcons and any features they had that you miss now or conversely nolonger miss.
I'll start it off with two. Miss:The ability to have cool outside air to face level while having hot air to your feet. Think the EL was last Falcon to offer this and was great to keep you awake on cold days. Don't Miss: I certainly don't miss the under dash handbrake lever and snapped a few starting with an XW Falcon and one in a XD and XE. |

As soon as I saw this that was the first feature I thought of. I think my AU 1 Fairmont could do it too. Best feature ever in a car.
Also, a decent foot rest for the auto's.

Miss. Great hi beam on BA Falcon. Car beeping the horn when you have a door ajar and go to lock the car. Incredibly practical interior design of Territory and comfortable ride.
Don't Miss. Cost cutting. XD Falcon/TF Cortina door handles that break. Ford customer service. Ford dealers. |

Miss: 351 Clevo, Toploader & 9" combos.
Don't miss: The fuel bill. Oh & the rust issues.

I really like the "walk away" light feature on my AU, you can change the timing etc.
But the amount of times I have been told I have forgotten my lights is nuts..but its still handy. Behold the technological powerhouse that the AU Falcon is!

I miss the fact that owning a new falc used to be cool and they were plentiful on the roads. Apparently now it's cool to be a rebel bad dad and buy a Camry RZ.....
I don't miss some of the agricultural electrics , like on my old XE ESP. The door trim used to flex out when you kept your finger on the power window switch and the windows would reach their upwards closed limit..... The sticky under dash handbrake and the flex in the chassis when you would jack the car up. Ouch !!! |

Driver's foot rest. Although the Territory at least still goes troppo with the horn if a door is not shut properly when you lock it.

Talking about old features, a friend has a 1940s Bentley, it has manual windows but its geared so if you swing the leaver 180 degrees the window goes all the way down or up without having to wind the crap out of it like normal windows. Not a Falcon though but still cool. |

One I forgot to add from earlier. Being able to drive down the highway with the drivers window down without feeling like you ear is constantly getting thumped.

Oscillating centre air vents (XF Fairmont Ghia)
Another vote for speed sensitive power steering 6 seat falcons I hate the cold face/hot feet thing. |

I don't miss:
Rimblow steering wheels. A stupid idea!! Under dash handbrake. X series turning circle with power steering. What I do miss: Manual heater controls. Auto climate control I can never get it spot on.

You mean like the 11.0m turning circle of the XF Falcon (2.4 turns lock-lock)?
Or did you mean an 11.0m turning circle like the Mazda 3 MPS (2.7 turns lock-lock)? I couldn't believe that when I first read it. Also found this line from a review of the Mazda 3.... Did have a chuckle "Inner city maneuverability is a Mazda3 strong point with good visibility and a compact 10.9-mherre turning circle." (spelling mistake was their's not mine) |

FWD cars usually aren't great in this regard. Having said that my wife's Corolla has a better turning circle than my Honda.

There seems to be what feels like a massive difference between my Fiesta and Focus in turning circle, the Focus feels much bigger.

Laughed when I read this one Bearman! I thought, 'Yep - this is a bloke who had to suffer one!'
I had an XA GS. Great old car with factory 351/toploader etc but like a lot of them back then - non power steered. I can absolutely guarantee that anyone executing a reverse park in the CBD in one of these will have everyone's attention by the time the manoeuvre is completed! Ah yes, the rim blow horn - may it never, ever make a reappearance! Russ |
