'Under new regulations, from 24 April, drivers caught speeding could be fined a percentage of their weekly income (a minimum of £200) – and up to six points could be put on their licence. In this article, we explain the changes to the speeding penalties and how they could affect you.
The key questions around the new speeding penalty guidelines answered Speeders could be fined up to 175% of their weekly income Our handy chart helps you work out which fine band different speeds sit in How much could I be fined if I'm caught speeding after the new fine has been introduced? Depending on where you were speeding, and how fast you were going over the speed limit, the Sentencing Council's new regulations will put you into one of three bands. Band A offences are for those caught going up to 10mph faster than the speed limit Band B offences are for those caught going 11mph to 21mph faster than the speed limit Band C offences are for those caught going more than 21mph faster than the speed limit Depending on which band you fall into, you'll be fined a certain percentage of your weekly income. The percentage of your weekly income allocated to each band is just a starting point, and can increase based on the severity of your speeding offence. The highest percentage you can be fined is 175% of your weekly income. Based on the average UK income, this means you could be fined close to £1000. Are there any other changes? People caught speeding could also have points added to their driving licence or, alternatively, they could be disqualified from driving for up to 56 days. Again, this will depend on how fast over the speed limit the driver was going.'' https://www.lv.com/atheart/news/spee...ource=facebook My comment : this will happen here, as Plods want more revenue....

I might be wrong but I think that Victoria is at the fore front of automotive revenue raising. It all started with the old amphometer (sp) who can remember those black tubes across the road?

This is Australia in the future. More cars with cruise control, speed limiters and HUD means less will get caught speeding. Where will the revenue come from then?

Hi. In victoria it will come from the "point to point" cameras on peninsular link that seems to think anyone doing 100kph is doing 111kph and issues a fine for doing 108kph (111k - 3k). Cheers MD

Once auto driving cars are a thing the government will be screwed with revenue raising.
They will have to have a special tax on the purchase price of self driving cars. "Speeding revenue tax" |

In France its completely different. In zones over 70km/h i think it is, fines are HALF price compared to under 70. And the 1st fine is 1 point and up to 20 over and if you are on a freeway that means 130 +20kmh plus error allowance of about 5kmh, so 155 and you get a 45 Euro fine! Good value. Obvisously double that in the villages and cities which is completely fair enough.

Tried driving in the UK?...lucky to get anywhere near the limit!!
Tried driving in France?...pay per km of motorway you use!! If you are not on the motorway you wont be speeding. I suggest everyone go to Germany before the fun is ruined there as well. |
