Default expensive BA GT

well the first BA FPV has come out of the closet, i didn't even know they have any 'P' cars in the BA Mk1 range

this is from the Falcon GT Owners Club of NSW facebook page

Quote:
Hello, My name is John

I own the BA GT Prototype. This is recorded as P001. I have owned it since 2004 it had 5,800 klms on it when I acquired it. Now has only 6,700 klms. The vehicle has been safely stored in my collection and maintained as new.

The car is manual, and Phantom in colour.

It is the only BA GT with a 2002 compliance plate, the GT’s were not released until 2003 the instrument cluster is different to any other GT. This car also has some other unique features.

This vehicle is the one that Ford Australia used in the promotion and re-release of the GT and was promoted by John Bowe. This car was searched for back in 2013 for the 10th anniversary of the FPV GT by the September/October ( issue 69 ) of the Australian Muscle Car Magazine, they were wondering where it went. I have all supporting documentation, and every little extra that came with the vehicle. There are rare DVD’s showing John Bowe promoting the actual car and many still photos.

Mr John Bowe is fully aware of this car and its origins. As I am reaching retirement I have decided to sell this piece of Ford Australia's motoring history. I attach one photo of the car and have many more. If you could put this in your magazine and it sells I am prepared to make a decent donation to your club, alternately I can pay for an advert. The asking price is $200,000.00. The rate these cars are heading and the ONE OFF uniqueness of this car makes it a good investment and cannot be replaced. It would be nice to see this car go into a Museum or another genuine collector. There is NOT a better quality, original, lower klm more unique BA GT car in Australia.

This is the NUMBER1 Prototype.

Yours sincerely John

Wow, I think it's worth every cent of 200k. Sure all the the plastic GT comments will come but it is a GT and it was the first plastic GT made.

I'd pay $60-70k on the basis of it being mint and dealer kms. The prototype moniker holds little value for me but no doubt it will complete someone's collection and they'll pay more.

Nice car.

I always thought P stood for pre-production, not prototype. Still a rare car, not sure about 200k rare though.

P is for Pilot car, not prototype or pre-production. These cars were used to test and time the production line for that model.

Wish they had tested and timed a bit longer ie until the mixer shaft in the heater had snapped and the hood lining had fallen down, would have saved thousands of blokes incl of myself thousands

The testing and timing bit, has more to do with how a new model variant went down a full production line.............not quality or durability unfortunately.

Cheers Mick

200K gets you a lot of car, at both new & classic ends of the scale.

Im not sure a BA GT will ever be worth that much

mines now a barn find and a 1 of 1 (its now stored as of last month)
just add some barn dust in a few years and have a story of how its also mentioned in AMC magazine along with Ford's letter of authentication

I might buy my next house with the profit

my GT won't be sold anytime soon i'm keeping it to hoon about in my retirement

In the immortal words of Darryl Kerrigan, "tell him he's dreaming"

I'm sure it would be worth a fair bit but 200k is pushing it. You can get get classic GTs for less.

200k? kidding me? There is naught special about the car.

People laughed at HSV charging less than that for a W1.

No doubt a significant FoA vehicle and apparantly kept in showroom condition.
But $200K is a big stretch. The modern plastic classics just don't age as well as the old ones do.

this is the reason i pulled mine off the road, $1900 per year to register and insure compared to $400 laid up cover, plus its a BA falcon, they are plastic and its not great plastic, last trip to summernats my b pillar trim fell off and front wheel bearing collapsed, before that it got hit with hail and in the same week someone reversed into it. its all fixed but as i don't drive it i'd rather pull it out in a few years in the same condition not have to spend a few grand replacing unavailable plastic trims, fixing worn parts and so-on

my 3y/o kid has no interest if i drive her about in the GT or the FG XT so i drive that instead, when she is older things will hopefully change

i'd like to think its worth $10k more than what i have paid (i got it cheap) but its cost more than that to keep it in good condition, last year i spent about $5k on parts, rego and insurance, my FG cost me $4500 with 12 months rego including putting XR6 goodies all through it

The car certainly has a great story, whether its worth 200k is debateable. I actually have a copy of the DVD mentioned above.

Here are its glamor shots from way back when......

It'd be desirable but not sure if I'd part with the price of an okay house for it yet . The really exxy one will be the last run FPV GT-F's . There's a few bucks in the bank at some stage in the future for anybody willing to part with it I reckon.

We all know the most collectable GT's are from the 60s & 70's. Sure there are a few special releases like the B series Cobra & the BF with black n gold stripes but the rest will never see the prices of the originals. I doubt any Ford nut would pay $200g when you could have a genuine XW GT & a BF GT Cobra instead. Like anything else, cars are only worth what somebody is prepared to pay on the day.
