Hi Guy's/girl's
I'm just curious if we have any people amongst us that work as a mobile speed camera operator ?, I am looking for a change in career path and this line of work has taken my interest. If there are any here that either do this role or know of others that do I would appreciate an insight as to the finer details or any helpful information that may help in my decision for a new start ?. Thank you. |

Mobile revenue raisers are equipped with a panic button for a reason, not to mention reinforced glass and other personal safety devices.

Why would you want to do a job like that?.....sitting down all day watching cars go by?......it takes pics automatically, just park, point and switch on and have a nap!
But someone has to do it, and it would never be me or my mates, parking inspectors I tolerate, only just though, and they are sworn in as police officers or sherrifs, you got any blemish on your record, police or traffic then I doubt you would get in, but you sound determined, so become a JP first, then look around for a cosy govmint job! A guy I knew quite a few years back used to be a Ranger then did this job for a while.
He got very bored, setting up in a location (not of his choosing, gets a list of when and where by his supervisor), then sits there for up to four hours at a time. Then go to another spot. It's early starts and shift work, pay was ok for sitting on your rse(not sure exactly) and shift penalties. Get ready for lots of abuse, because to be honest, it has nothing to do with road safety. It's all about going to target rich environments and anything a couple of kays over gets flashed. I don't know what it is, but not much tolerance. Yes they had an emergency button for Police help, don't know about reinforced glass but wouldn't surprise me as people used to chuck bottles at him as they drove past.

Hope the engines are quiet at idle. I always see them parked out the front of peoples houses in the middle of the night. I wouldn't be happy with someone parked out the front of my house with the engine running for hours.

Can you even hear a car engine running above background noise at 15m let alone from within a dwelling?

Religiously every second or third day/night. I was looking after the place for my dad after they passed away. At one point old mate had an FG Ute, now we all know how noisy the fans in one of those are. Even when they werent on i could hear the car clear as day, itd be parked probably 20m from my bedroom. Also he didnt move for much, many times id planned to mow and trim the edges even with a whipper snipper flicking rocks everywhere he sat there unperturbed. Also dunno how manty signs he went through cause id seen also a few times they were stolen Theres no way id want a job like that, sitting in a car for hours on end would do my head in.

Apparently $25 an hour plus penalty rates.
Not bad for doing nothing, but not good pay either way. Sitting in a car all day would be painful. Mentally and physically. |

Been doing it 'on the side' for 5 years now. Allowed to play on the laptop / phone / office computer. Can get up and go for a walk. Got free parking in the CBD. Depending on shifts I only interact with someone perhaps once each hour. Yeah... won't be giving up this job any time soon. Oh, I'm here now BTW lol... Finish at 11pm. Might have time to squeeze in a movie seeing as everyone is staying indoors

I would love to have a job where you get to cruise up and down the Motorways (rather than set up in one spot)...and nab the absolute idiots that go past.

Would be interesting to see what their policy is in regards to physically moving. It must be bloody hard on the body to sit in the same spot like that for so long.
