Seems like the large ute segment is set to take off in Oz with the F150 in the pipeline and now the Toyota Tundra also getting closer to being a candidate.
Get your name down as one of the testing 300 This part is interesting given their Ford association. "Toyota and its local engineering partner, the Walkinshaw Automotive Group – the former parent company of Holden Special Vehicles – have already been working on the right-hand-drive Tundra remanufacturing program for more than three years. As pointed out Toyota's 230 plus Oz country wide dealership for servicing and parts will be a major plus. https://www.drive.com.au/news/toyota...edium=Referral |

Was involved in one of the parts that goes into this conversion, the amount of testing required to get through Toyota's engineering team was nuts.

Tundra - failed destructive testing to their own specs, pulled apart under tension.
For what it is thats for me to know and you to figure out, but I was involved in the discussions about some of the locally manufactured parts that go into that conversion. Also made for the RAM and Silverado, so far none of the others have been as thorough as Toyota have, although HSV is very stringent with quality - Toyota is next level. I'd sooner buy something that comes out of HSV's production line than any of the others in the industry like some prominent ones who've been around for 20+ years. Its hilarious how continuously everyone was saying 'No one wants American utes'.
They've always wanted American utes, just no one was willing to put money on it - except HSV. Thats why 2001-2006 Brazillian RHD F250/F350 are worth more now with 500,000km on the clock then they were when they were new. |

Meanwhile everyone else is salty because of the price of fuel and feigning concern over how it won't fit in the car park at Thailand Specials and the 3500kg towing capacity Yeah 3500kg in 2nd gear on redline at 40km/h on the next incline you see. |

Super passionate business as well, they're a bit uncoordinated for an OEM, but that was because they grew massively in a very short space of time. I don't think they anticipated demand for what their product, everything ramped up massively, nekminnit they're running 24 hour production as well.
Their warehouse crew are hilarious too, if they were more relaxed they'd fade out of existence Its like they have their own timezone, there's GMT +10 then there's HSV warehouse crew time. |

Saw two Tundras in camo going through Crookwell a month or so back. Local Toyota dealer has a few "expressions of interest" for when details drop.
