Cars and driving have always been a big part of my life. I have been driving for nearly 15 years now, and I still find myself just hopping in the car and going for a drive, with no real purpose other than enjoying my car and the road. Usually late at night, as I have the roads almost to myself. No traffic, no idiot drivers.
I thought I would have grown out of it by now, but I now realise that I don't think I ever will. I'll often click up 3-400kms a night, but more usually about 100 or so, give or take. Tell me I am not the only one. I'm addicted.

I used to heaps, in fact my boyfriend would always know i was upset (usually at him!!) if i was just out driving, cause often used the time to think. But ever since my stereo got stolen i havent felt the same way about my car. Its not a joy to drive anymore. Thats why my car looks like it does in sparkles pic hehehe. Its kinda liked my car had been violated... just hasnt felt the same.
I know i still love to drive though. When my car was playing up, i roped my boyfriend into lending me his car, just a 2000 lancer, but it was just awesome to drive it, and i found myself taking the long ways home just to feel the love of driving again. It was also great to have music to sing to again!!

Sometimes I'd go for a run through the Mt Dandenongs (east of Melbourne) but I'd get really frustrated when my run along the single lane each way with almost no opportunity to overtake road (unless you're crazy) was blocked by some genuine Sunday driver. Instead of taking the corners close to the speed limit, they'd be braking and taking the corners at 40km/h, and you'd have to follow them for 10 km or more GRRRRRR!!!!!!

I can't do it at all, can't just drive for no reason gotta be going somewhere. I hope to get house close to work so I can avoid driving. I like cars but traffic+idiots+fuel+clocking up kms = no fun for me anyway.

You're not the only one!!! This one time, at band camp, ... oh hang on, wrong forum..
This one weekend, several years back when I was living on the Gold Coast, a bunch of my Sydney mates were going to Hawkes Nest for the weekend - a bit of a tradition. I felt left out, and decided on the spot on the friday night, that I was not going to miss out. Loaded up the XR8 and drove all night to get down there by mid morning! Best of all, I still managed to arrive there quicker than a few of the Sydney guys! There's not much I enjoy more than jumping in the old girl and taking her out for either an easy cruise, or a hardcore fang, just me and her. No distractions, nobody getting in my face, no bullshit, my world is the road in front of me. Yeah baby, yeah!

Yeap, I often just go on a random drive... Sometimes trying to find ricers on the way, or just drive anywhere for the hell of it. I often do it after work late at night when I am bored and just feel like pushing the pedal to the metal.

I love driving just to drive aswell. Only thing that hurts is my fuel gauge and rubber. I too agree that going for a drive is good thinkin time, but also relaxing time. Hoon night around here is on a thursday night so usually I like to go and annoy ricers :

I'm the same as you FFOracing, I have been driving around for driving's sake since I first got my licence. Quiet roads, the sound of your car, good music, mind wandering, its real enjoyable. I can easily clock up 80-100 kms in a night just driving nowhere.
I think my best effort that my friends still bring up sometimes is one beaut Saturday, I felt like a Cheeseburger. Did I go to McDonalds 5 minutes up the road. No, I decided to go to Victor Harbor McDonalds! About a 5 hour round trip. Drove there, ate burger, drove home.

One Saturday morning in Melbourne a few blokes were sitting around wondering what to do, one bloke says "why don't we go climb Ayers Rock", his parents were away and had left the Tarago in the drive. So they jump in the Tarago, drive to NT, arrive Sunday lunchtime, climb rock, take happy snaps, drive home again in time for Monday morning. Not sure if the parents noticed the 5500km extra on the odometer though! |

I used to take the GT for some regular 5am Sunday morning targe type entertainment just about every week.
Living close to the Dandenong Ranges, and knowing no one was about, I could stretch its legs and have breakfast in Emerald. Now I live in the inner city its no so easy, but there are still some lovely peices of tarmac that a GT is just built for at 5am.

I love the drive to work on a Monday morning. I have to leave my place at 1am but its about a half hour drive and its just fantastic - i dont speed or anything, but its just good to be out on your own and you can pretty much do what you want.
I do a LOT of dirving mainly cos i live a half hour out of town, and i work late at night.

As pretty much everyone has said I drive for the sake of driving. It clears my head, it lets me get a grip on life and relax. Well why not you know that what you put into your car you get out of it and enjoy it.
Talking about relaxing I could go for a drink with those little umbrellas in them... On second thought a beer will do. |

yep i love getting behind the wheel and tackling a nice twistie bit of road on a cool crisp evening, or early morning.
the car seems to get a new lease on life in the crisp air, and its an absolute blast great for relaxing, or the other extreme - ADRENELINE!

I drive 40 k's to and from work everyday, so I get a fair bit of time to drive. I love it in the early shift starts (5am) when I have the road to myself and listen to a good cd and just cruise............................. py:

I do it to pass time, when I'm upset and need to cheer myself up, or to clear my mind when there's a lot going on. I do it at night too. Roads are empty, and usually the cool night breeze with all the windows down helps me relax. I love it, and I KNOW I'm never going to get sick of it. |

whenever i was home with nothing important to do and a downpour of rain would come down id run out to my black manual eb and take her for a rap along the wet roads.. not to do the sideways thing, but just to crooze with the roar of the rain comin down..
and even then... in the dry... id drive out to places for no real reason... me and a mate went to bunbury once to say hi to someone(stayed there an hour)... then drove back.. not exactly a cheeseburger run 'mont98, but hey. |

My only problem with my XR8 is I don't get to drive it enough! It's usually garaged during the week as I use public transport to get to work and only comes out on weekends.
When it is out though, I love nothing better to get out at night on my own on some quiet roads and just enjoy the car. No reason is required, no-one to see, just the "joy" of driving an XR8. The roar of the Windsor, the brilliant AU handling, a good CD in the stereo... Ahhh, my idea of heaven! |

i have to tell ya, i love to drive, it doesnt even ahve to be anywhere, as long as im cruisin. although it hasnt eben teh same without tunes, but i still enjoy it. well that is to say, i "did" enjoy it, i have no car atm and im going crazy cause i havent driven in almost a month :( but when i was driving, i would always take a slight detour home hehehe. and i waould always spend my day off going for a cruise, usually down to gelnelg and along the bay towards sempahore way and then take the long way back home. best way to spend your day off imo :P oh yeah, i hate driving when im angry........my car doesnt deserve it, i wish i didnt have to drive home when i quit work........poor little escort :(
