Default I bought myself a Ford!

I just bought myself a 1994 Fairmont Ghia!

Taken it for a spin, and its beautiful!

It has a few minor dints and scratches, and a few things that rattle when driving, but I will be fixing them up soon.

The drivers power window doesn't work... It goes up but doesn't go down properly. I think it may be a dodgy switch. How do I fix this, and how much will it cost?

how do i post pics?

I've noticed you've had a few double-threads occurring lately! Don't ya hate it when that happens...

/on topic --> congrats on the purchase mate! If it goes up but doesn't go down properly, it wouldn't be the switch. Probably best to take the doorskin off and grease up the rails (and get any crap out of them.)

Now you realise why it pays to be nice to people. :

Do you hear a click or clunk when pressing the down button?

Don't use grease on the rails - use silicon spray on the window rubbers. It's about $15 a can and will do about 16 windows (ie lasts a while).

Could be the switch, pull it apart and clean it out, you'd be amazed how much crap ends up in there.

Yeah I hear a clunk when I press the button...

Sorry for the late reply... I can't stop bloody driving!

Cd player isn't working either. It's the premium system, and it turns on and selects the CDs, but just won't play. I think maybe it just isn't reading them. Meh?

Also the door handles are painted a lighter colour than the rest of the car. I assume this isn't normal as it looks wierd. Not bad, just... wierd.

Cobalt is such a nice colour...

If its clunking then its less likely the switch. get the silicone spray into the runners and check the glass is aligned. you may gave a stripped gear in the power regulator which is sold as an assembly. But you can get from the wreckers.

Welcome to the world of perpetual maintenance and poverty, enjoy it, we all do.

No such thing. The EB/ED/EF 5.0 litre was 165 kw whether it was in an XR8, a GLi or a Fairmont Ghia. It was stock from Ford and enhanced by no-one. It took them 4 years to get the power to a reasonable level (185 kw in EL2) - and that WAS Tickford enhanced. The 5.0 V8 in every other EL2 (GLi, Fairmont, etc) was the old 165kw (though they may have rated it at 170).

There were "enhaced by Tickford" cars though other than XR's, just not hp enhanced, you are quite correct about the engine ratings.

Thanks guys...

The car has a sticker on the windscreen from the last service, which has a caption on it which says:

"Items for attention at next service: 9 6 3 7 3 9 3 3"

What does that mean?
