Cool Pulled up by the police

Has anyone been pulled up by the police just because of the way your car looked?.About four years ago i was driving along Gympie rd in chermside brisbane and pulled up at a set of lights a cop car pulled up along side about 5secs later onthe right side of me. He was in the turning lane going into hamilton rd. When the lights turned green he got the arrow as well to turn.As i headed off towards aspley(this was about 10 oclock at night)he followed me put on his lights and pulled me over. The driver was a young cop his buddy was an older officer. Asked for my licence looked my car over how long did i have it, just useless questions ran a check to see if it was stolen. checked to see if my licence was valid any outstanding fines. He could not ping me for any thing,a thank you sir and have a good night was all i got for the inconvienance of being pulled over for nothing and for all the people passing by probaly had their minds made up that another hoon was getting his come uppance. The feeling i got was that this young cop was trying as hard as he could to get me for something.

Yep happens all the time.

When I picked up my phoon in Dec last year I was pulled over a couple of times for the usual checks but they were really interested in was to have a look at the car. Even had a highway patrol pass me (on coming) on a 4 lane road, he did a smart U turn. I expected the lights to go on but he just pulled up alongside me in the other lane and we travelled along for a while..... the cop in the passenger seat was giving her the "once over".... but than again as I am an old fart they decided to do nothing.. just dropped back and did another U turn and went on their way.

Sure it might be inconvienent

but would rather have them doing their job and getting the unregistered or unliscenced off the roads.

One good thing about being an old fart is that they usually think your harmless :evil_laug .... although the Xtreme sticker on the back window is a bit of a give away :Up_to_som

Wow, and this is why I have crappy looking cars. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it lol.

In NSW (for those who don't know), on long weekends it is double demerit points (and double fine amounts I think) from Friday 12.00am to Tuesday 12.00am.

I was driving back from the Black Eyed Peas concert on Monday night when I flew past a cop at 11.55pm. I was on the M4 doing over 110kph (my speedo's out, not sure by how much) and he was sitting there, in the dark, facing us on the large green median strip.

He didn't look at me twice, even though I had overtaken everyone on the friggin M4 since I got on the thing... that's why I know my speedo's out. I estimate I was going around 120kph, which he could have gotten me for...

Maybe he didn't notice me or really care because I was not a P plater. Maybe he couldn't believe a non-hoon-looking EA could actually get to that speed, and maybe thought he was imagining things!

I know a few HP guys that work the M4 & they all say there not worried about people doing 10-15km/h over because there is alway some one doing 30km/h over & just love to stop them.

A couple of years ago i han an XE sedan. OK, it was a bit of an eye opener, Grey primer with electric blue flames up the bonnet and guards... low as hell and bloody loud, but it was definately road worthy. Was driving to work one morning, down Bell st, Coburg, Vic (sensibly too, was in traffic, which wasnt even moving). Cop did a U turn, pulled me up, went over the car and booked me for not displaying a P plate. It was there, however, it had fallen off the windscreen onto the parcel shelf! The bottom of the plate was still stuck to the window! $110 fine later, im on my way. Dont these guys have anything better to do?
Had a Stock Capri convertable with 15" alloys. Driving down Elizabeth Street, city, cops followed me all the way down the street, pulled me over coz my headlights were bright?!?! W T F!!! When i showed them the hi-beams they let me go, but only after keeping me there for 10 mins while they checked over the whole car.
Been pulled over once in my XY, for failing to indicate. Cop looked at my car had a chat and let me go. Nice guy. Why arent all cops like this?
Even in the ute, its bloody loud, Cops dont look twice.
I dont get it!?!?! The XE was a P.O.Sand the Capri was stock?

I've been pulled over three times for "no reason" (i.e. I thought I hadn't done anything and wasn't booked for anything as a result of it .. different to I HAD done something and wasn't booked ). All three times I was driving a friends STOCK (and in great nick!) ZB Fairlane (stock single exhaust and all!).
Once was on our way home from Uni .. pulled over, licence check, quick look around the car and on our way.
Second time was driving into Halls Gap for holiday .. *just* get into town (i.e. two minutes), pull up to get some food and cops pull in-beside us and go thru us like a Spanish Inquisition.
Third time we had six people in car (reg'd as six seater) and was pulled over. All told to get out, they start to get everyones names and search the car. Eventually they ask one of the girls her name, which they recognised as a local TOG cops daughter. As soon as they hear that, they send us on our way ..

I've owned black Dodge Phoenix with confederate flag on the front, Pontiac wagon with confederate flag painted on the tailgate, XC 351 with twin 3" exhausts, 440-powered Phoenix, etc ... cops never looked at them once. Why the old ZB?

Is the M4 a 110 zone or 100kph. If you aren't doing anything stoopid in N.S W. lots of coppers can't be bothered pulling you up for less than 15kph over the limit, waste of time. I found similar in QLD but we all know about VIC. Cameras and camera cars are set at lower speeds so 8 over will get you done. I wonder how many of you in NSW and QLD not VIC have actually been pulled over and booked for less than 15kph over in 100 and 110 zones?

Me, my only speed fine 3 years ago in QLD was 66 in a 60 zone. (Didn't realise I even did it until shown the camera)

PS I now it's not a 100 km zone but this shows it happens.

This is most likely with the 3km/h subtracted. So, your mum was doing 65. I was booked by a speed camera, and was sent a fine saying I was doing 61 in a 60 zone. Bring back the 10% tolerance!!!

Not anymore, the tolerance is now 2km/h. Her recorded speed was 64Km/h and the speed she was booked ofr was 62. Im not sure i could even tell the difference between 64 and 62 on a speedo, but apparently Bracks thinks we can.

I drive a tidy EL XR6 which is stock. Before that a clean XE S pak with chrome 14x7" 12 slotters. I've never been singled out and pulled over for no reason. I've only ever been pulled up at RBT stations and once for speeding. That's in 12 years of driving

Id say not a lot of people get done for <15km/h on the highways because the cops know there is bigger fish to fry. Its mainly speed cameras that will get you for this.

Nice cars get pulled over
rough cars don't!

So stop maintaining your cars, allow them to be substandard and you will not be defected.

LOL

In Sydney most cops especially local police don't care about going over up to about 15ks. I actually had a cop give the the thumbs up for speeding over the limit to let him through quicker(his disco lights were on, oncoming traffic and there wasn't a shoulder for another 200m.

OK I am nitpicking here ... sorry Jarrod ... hee hee

there are variable speed signs ... but starts off at 70 at Concord Rd and becomes 90 ... all the way until about 500 m past the speed camera (at Cumberland Hwy) and then becomes 100km/h ... and then becomes 110km/h after Mamre Rd (or is it just after Wallgrove Rd).

Good thing I don't drive the M4 anymore ... seeing as I have moved up to Kurrajong now.

I find on freeways though ... cops won't chase you unless you are doing more than 15km/h.

Cameras are a different story though ... they'll get you even at 2 km/h over.

Yes you are nitpicking! Just after Wallgrove Rd it's a 110kph zone. :

I've been pulled up twice for flooring it from traffic lights (not speeding or wheel spin) and have gotten warnings for that and the usual license check, check over car etc.

But worse than that I had my car parked at werribee plaza and went for a quick drive in someone else's car and came back to find my car had a 'major defect' stuck on the windscreen requiring to get a roadworthy cert, had fairly bald stockies on the rear at the time, and the cop attracting P plates. Still a bit harsh to defect a car just parked there.

I think it does make a masive difference - I've got a Magna sports for work and I recieve no attention whatsoever - fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, my mate, Dannys_q (remember him!) always gets pulled over for RBTs in his N14 Ti Pulsar - poor bloke never speeds! Must be that pulsar.org sticker, the dark tint, the lowered car and the large mags! haha.

That is exactly what it is like in Melbourne, nice car = 100% chance of getting pulled over if you look under 30!

I think your right there. I was driving my Buick with 10X15 rears loud twin exhaust & bright red paint Job. In front there was a young couple in a VR/S Commodore doing nothing wrong like myself execept being young looking having 17"'s. exh note & lowered the 2 Tog officer's cruised pass me slowly the passanger one looking into the Buick & myself but as I being a older driver they then speed up to the Commodore & signaled him to pullover put their flashing lights on & pulled in behind the Commodore driver.

Yeah, been pulled over many times, most times just because they wanted to have a look at the car (no, not the XF :hihi:, the various Escorts I used to drive), they don't look twice at me now in the XF.

I used to get pulled up at least once a weekend in my old red XF. They'd do a licence and rego check, check the tyres and do a breath test. Good conditioning really, i knew i couldn't get away with anything. I'd guess they just kept pulling over me becuase i was a young kid with a red lowered XF with an exhaust and big mags.

I remember one new years day i got pulled up 3 times.

They haven't bothered me so far in the XR6.

Used to get pulled up in the Proton a fair bit ... cos it was decked (couldn't see daylight underneath it ... the thing was a go-kart literally).

But since I got the ute ... they don't look at me ... maybe cos of the courier decals all over it. And it's not quiet ... has the aftermarket HID headlights ... larger wheels .. not lowered yet though ... and bloody dark tint. They don't look at me at all.

I guess it also depends on the police officer(s), but in general, I think if a car looks or sounds different to what they are used to seeing (such as a loud mint looking Mk 1 Escort, or a Mk II Escort with spoilers, P plates and a young bald guy driving it), they're more likely to want to have a look.
