Hi all, I started my car today and when I put it into reverse it just reved and didnt move, it finally moved slowly but as soon as I touched the accelerator it just reved like it was in Neutral. All other gears are fine and working. When I put it into reverse it dosent give the little clunk to let me know it's in gear. I only had the gearbox serviced in December and I dont drive it hard.
Cheers Tony |

It could be the inhibitor switch - get under the car, disconnect all the electrical connectors plugged into the gearbox, and spray liberally with WD40/RP7/"Start Ya Bastard". Reconnect and it should be good.
If it';s not that, then it could be that the Transmission fluid will be low - top it up quick.

I had this problem crop up with my old ZH LTD turns out the servo for the first gear clutch died so when she went in to reverse it was actually in first and reverse at the same time, Rev it hard and reverse gear being a lower ratio would win out and it'd creep backwards slowly (not recomended... my ex wife discovered this and cost me a new tranny because of it) don't know if the AU Trans would be subject to a similar problem

if the connectors aren't dirty it will most likely be the revers solenoid is acting up

Hmm Ok maybe my reply was not directly related to the AU and yes autos have come a long way in the years between models IE electronic computerised control verses mechanical kickdown linkages, that said however the basic opperation inside the transmission hasn't really changed a great deal, it still works with bands, planetary gears, hydraulic valves and servo actuated clutches, thus the same problems that occured in a transmission of 10 to 15 years ago can occur today (and a whole host of new problems) the electronic systems control gear shifts and kickdown, but as reverse is still mechanicaly selected and has no kickdown system I think my input was valid. I certainly didn't mean to put any ones nose out of joint though, and apologise if I have done so
