I read somewhere that Richmond will no longer run any airshows.

I went a few years ago and really enjoyed it (manage your exit plans though).
I'm not sure about this is year - can't find a listing of displays on their site usually means not a lot to offer. I doubt the F22 of the poster would be there and no real russian participation of migs or su's. |

Unfortunately its not upto Richmond. Big PR events such as this are organised through and with canberra's approval. Don't get me wrong, we would love to host another show in sunny (pharking hot & humid) Richmond but there's nothing in the forseable future AFAIK. Here's a photo taken at the last RAAF Richmond Airshow. USAF C-17 hitting reverse thrust, believe it or not this is considered 'normal' for these engines and didn't cause any damage.

Yeah I'll probably be going with a mate who is a big propeller head. Well actually he prefers turbines lol.
I haven't been for about 10 years though so I hope it's still a good show.

I lived in Geelong for 6 years and never got around to having a look which I regret now. Would mind going this year though. I have no real interest in planes as such, but would be a fighter pilot any day of the week if the opportunity came up.

I will probably go, its fantastic I have been to a few well worth it
To feel (yes feel) and F111 take off about 100 meters away is incredibly - something you need to experiece. Aussie Tigers should put on a good display and the F-18's and F111 (providing they are servicable should do well too) Then it just comes down to what internationals turn up - Russians are great but I doubt they will be there - about 6 years ago the Su-27 pilot was incredible as was the Antanov (think someone told him he was in a Su-27 - very impressive for such a large plane)

Plus watching the Su-27 performing a cobra (?? think they called it that) and the double cobra were incredible (basically reversing direction in a very small amount of airspace)

What sucks is that the current $$ issue might stop some from coming all the way to Oz :(

I'll be going, i've been to the last few. Pretty good day out.
Last year the had a B52 do a fly-by (google it if you don't know what they are) was an awesome sight. But pretty much every year they have the stock standard F-16, F-15, f-18 Hornet (RAAF) and Superhornet (USAF) stunt planes and the like.

There will be some F22s on deployment in Guam around airshow time, so there's a better chance that they will make the next half of trip to Aus... I guess they won't be promoted until definite, and that depends on what oil-producing countries Obama wants to take over and when...

I'm flying down with a pilot mate of mine from Brisbane, we're both doing our flight training though he's in the later stages, i advise any aviation buff to go as it will be one of the last F111 [pig] performances for quite some time as they're planned to be retired in 2010!
Cheers

Ive been too every Avalon, and it is getting progressively worse. With a little more than a month out and not a single indication of what the likely flying schedule will be. Look for a large RAAF contingent a small USAF display, and minimal Warbird attendance. By all reports the organizers aren't keen to pay the Warbird owners an appropriate fee for their time.
