It's a really strange system though.
They get 1,446 years but can only serve a maximum of 20 years. Why bother with the insanely high amount in the first place?! |

That said, we need that sort of harsh discouragement here. Thailand is my home country. But if you are going to screw over the locals like that, there is no sympathy. Most Thais are good hard working honest people.

That was what I was meaning. Apologies if it didnt come across that way. Discouragement/punishment is what is needed to discourage deception.

Countries that still have the death penalty still have violent crimes - more focus and resources on not making a nation chock full of degenerates rather than spending money on incarceration I reckon.

Crime rates follow low social cohesion. If people don't think society is working for them they are more prone to anti social behavior.
I've read research that suggests likelyhood of being caught is a bigger deterrent than severity of punishment, unfortunately our punishment has fallen to such low levels getting caught is no longer a deterrent. The problem with teh death penalty is it's final. There are a good proportion of people convicted of things they didn't do. Some even manage to prove it eventually. If they are dead how do yo make reparations ? Also killing people is really expensive. |
