1999 AU - has power steering fluid leaking everywhere from underneath (not from power steering unit itself ), belive its the power steering pressure switch.
How likely is it this switch ? How much would it cost for repair DIY or mechanic? How easy is it to repair? would be greatful for peoples feedback . thanks |

it would be coming from the switch .they cost about $70 from memory.its a pretty basic job .you'l need a couple of bottles of power steer fluid as well .
you just unclip the fitting from the switch and undo it (make sure you got an oil tray under there cause once you take it out the oil will drain).put the new one in and reconect the wires.after you fill it back up with powersteer fluid start up your engine and do a couple of lock to lock turns to get all the air out of the lines. |

Yeah pretty easy job, i did one on my old EA, and om the new AU i got one done at the Mechanics while they had it. I now have another leak from power steering but its not from the switch, i think its a seal or something, just need to find the time to get it up on ramps to have a look.

Don't use power steering fluid!
Post 96 Falcons use Syntrans manual transmission oil believe it or not....... Power steering fluid will in time stuff the pump. Just had to replace a power steering pipe on my car on the weekend- V8's a bit different though. Was pretty pleasesd with myself- changed the pipe without removing anything at all. Thought I did real well considering it's a bloody huge, solid pipe with only one flexible connection. The pipe was cracked at the top going into the reservoir and it was leaking oil everywhere. I'm not too familiar with the inline 6, but this couldn't be the same thing could it?

power steering pressure switch
Hybrid Mode
