how often do the old 3/4 and 5 speeds get serviced

i was talkin to a mate with a commo and he does a tranny service every 20,000! i was like farout who told ya that? he reckons its in the service manual!

its supposed to be every 20,000 in adverse condions (lots of towing etc) or every 50,000 kms...

mines currently 70,000kms overdue

:

going to get it done when the new engines ready, get full service and some modifications (high stall, shift kit etc)

Service hey... I knew there was sometihng that I could do to stop that clunking auto. I got it done about 20,000km ago but I don't think it was done properly ended up worse!

i never serviced the 3 speed. I serviced the 5 speed when I put it in, and i'll probably do it again towards the end of the year if by chance I still own my EA.

I recently got my 5spd done when the car was serviced also replaced the diff oil etc as i was unsure when the last owner last did the diff/5spd. Turns out the diff hadn't been done in a looooong time going by the oil that came out :hihi:

It should really be done every 20,000km, 'adverse conditions' include regular WOT shifting....

When your trans dies people, don't say BTR's are , they are only as good as the services they get, and I'm yet to see an E-Series BTR blow from too much power alone......

exactly, it is heat that hurts the BTR's,, good oil = less heat... I problably change mine every 20k ... My last BTR before the H/D upgrade did 450k

the old owner of my car got the auto serviced every 10,000 (which was about once a year for him) with the recipts to prove it. mine needs doing again been about 20,000 since thet last one.

I don't think I have that option.

I never serviced my 3 speed, but these 4 speeds need a bit more TLC. I do think that DIY service is the only way to go for a basic service. You can't get all the fluid out but if you're doing it reasonably regularly anyway that's probably a better thing in the long run.

well i got told i needed a total rebuild about 10000kms ago. so all i do is keep it topped up and wait for my t5 conversion.

The filter is the most important bit, they need changing as tehy get blocked up. A service kit comes with the pan gasket, filter and filter o-ring. (4 speeders)

$99 I pay for a service, no mates rates or anything. $600 is what an AU S5 and full flush would roughly cost.

You're kidding right? I hope you are kidding. Cause mine definately needs one and I'm not forking out $600 for some fool to drain the fluid, check the gears and see that it's all good, and put new fluid in.

So this is going to be a dumb *** question but what do you T5 guys do? Ive had the car for atleast 10,000k's so its about time I do something.

The old 3 speeder I used to have was going great and I never touched the thing.

Just drain the old oil, you'll need a 3/8 hex key, then fill it up till it over flows, i think the T5's take about 2 litres.

I've done 50,000 with my 4 speed, so I think it's due for a service. It is clunking a fair bit, particularly from the 1st to 2nd gear change. I seriously hope it doesn't end up costing $600 though! I'm already broke!

Every 4/5 services i spose... seeing as i service the car every few months (services being fluids/inspection/fix whatever's busted) and i take the car in for a trans service (filter/gasket) and a full fluid flush once a year. Usually get other work done at the same time so its hard to tell how much the trans service costs, around about $120 - most of that $$$ is fluid.

Hey I've got a El/Ef how do I service the auto box, where is the fill port.

I'll drain the g/b by dropping the sump but how do I fill the bastard back up.

There is no dipstick for the trans.

There's a filler plug on the side of the box, just like a manual.

He means Replacing a soleniod s5 or VPS.... thats why the cost is so much. And they dont check gears or anything on a servic. They rip the pan of, flick out the spring pull the filter pop the oring, out, put new filter in, put the clip on again, wack the pan on fill it up... kinda simple really.. no adjustments or anything. un less its an early early 4 speeder
