G'day guys would like to get peoples thoughts on the treatment i have had in regards to my BA XR8 UTE 2004 model, vehicle was diagnosed with major problems at 32000k's it had the diff replaced, gearbox and engine mounts also replaced. alternator and starter motor, timing chains, tensioners and cams also replaced, this was all at 32000k's under warranty i purchased the vehicle from jubilee ford@ five dock, with 13000k's, the engine has also let a big end bearing go now at 52000k's, the help(if you can call it that) from ford australia has been nothing short of disgraceful, the vehicle was out of warranty from february this year, my argument is that the bearing problems on these early ba motors was a factory flaw, it has taken nearly 5 weeks to get any sort of reply from the people at ford australia in melb, i am up for $4000 in costs on a motor which had regular documented service history, and was basically told its my problem, (they did offer 50% of costs) which made the total just over $8000, im finding it difficult to justify, why i should pay for a known factory fault(main engine bearings) on a car that i payed good money for when i purchased it, like i said i payed good money for a car that wass meant to drive not break down, it is also the 3rd falcon ive purchased in just under 4 years, i have spent $116000 on supporting the ford motor company, being a ford man through and through this experience has driven me to the point of never wanting to purchase another ford product ever again, would like to hear from anybody that may have had similar a similar situation with ford, in regards to a factory fault as big as a big end bearing letting go,cheers frank

This sounds familiar. My rattling XR8 with 29K is going back to Ford for good at the end of this month before it runs out of warranty. I love my Fords but will stick to the old stuff from here on. Needless to say the next new car will be a different brand.

How does it cost $8000 to just replace main bearings, I don't understand that bit.
Fist thing i would be looking at it why is spat a main bearing after 20,000km. A. you must have ither been thrashing the **** out of it every where (Unlikely) B. Bearing were faulty or clearances were way out of spec.

its probably like the "recall" they did where the trans cooler pipe in the radiator cracks and splits, then cross-contaminates and ruins the radiator and box...
apparently they selected a few cars to tell about the recall and thats it, and it was fixed for the series 2... have you tried fair trading or the like?

Its costing $8k because ford outsource all there rebuilt engines, they will be getting a complete rebuilt motor to replace it with, they dont supply short motors, as far as me thrashing it, people buy 4 wheel drives to go out in the country, i bought a v8 so i could drive it the way it was meant to be driven, it has had regular servicing done as per service manual, and i thoroughly agree, it definetily sounds like the clearances, were DOGSHIT from factory, thats my whole point, as to why i should have to pay for there up, seeing as its a factory stuff up and a very well known problem in the series1 ba's, i will be speaking to dept fair trading tomorrow and also the local HOLDEN dealer,(to buy a new maloo ute)these clowns have just lost me as a fair dinkum ford loving car nut!! i do read the forums occasionally and it is a very bad way to have to kick off my posting, as i used to bleed blue blood, not anymore i can see now why Ford is going broke worldwide, ill have a look at the other posts in regards to poor service horror stories etc it may shed some light cheers frank

You thrash the S%^t out if it and wonder why its broken - I take my 4wd off road, but I dont cry when a $60000 4wd it gets damaged "driving it the way it was meant to be driven". Its a Ford, not a Ferrari. Last edited by fairBA; 23-11-2007 at 09:24 AM. |

Meh
Feel for ya, but I have had a relationship with my dealer for some time, couldnt commend them more when I had warranty issues, on a quick count for all my cars is around 12 times, once they even damaged the car but the effort they went to in fixing it was amazing. Always a good and bad side, such is life Btw, keep the swearing off these forums Cheers

Dave the dealer was a champion bloke, it was the clowns at head office that havent got a clue, 5 weeks it has taken to get a reply from them when all relative information was posted to them on demand, from the onset and the fanciful stories and excuses they kept coming back with because they didnt have an answer were nothing short of disgraceful

It's frustrating I know that the car should have such issues at 52000 kms, but if I'm reading this correctly you are out of warranty, yet Ford have offered to pay 50% of the cost of a rebuilt/replacement motor. Is that correct?
Alternatively you could negotiate with Ford to have the bearings fixed only (at less cost)and then flog it. Either that or take the opportunity to build up a tough street motor if the rest of the car is worth it. By the way the Maloo's are nice but Holden service and relaibality is no better than Ford. If it makes you feel better to change regardless well that's your own business.

Don't get ford to do the work. take it to a good workshop and get the sump off and find out how many bearings are rooted, If it is only one or 2 the odds are it is a bearing fault or poor assembly.
If it is poor assembly which shouldn't be too hard to pick out once you get a look at the damaged bearings and check clearances then speak to ford again, take plenty off photos I was on a warranty/ service Job a wile back on a $90Million boat and we took about 30 Photos of 1 mechanical seal on a propulsion Jet to show it was assembly and manufacturing defaults that caused the failure and not normal wear. Even thou i worked for the Clowns who installed it i didn't really give a **** what caused it as i get paid by the hour LOL

willing to pay 50% of a very well known factory flaw, of which i didnt add to the options list when i forked over 100% of the purchase price, and purchased this car in good faith, thats my whole point, its a factory stuff up regardless if its in or out of warranty, main bearings do not let go at 50000k's, also the stuff that was replaced at 32000k's on this ute has a list as long as my arm, this car is a LEMON!!!!

Get a quote to fix the bearings etc..Then ask Ford to go halves in that!!
I'd say it would be half what they charge... If its making a knocking noise ?? I'd say the crank needs grinding undersize anyway?? Fillerupwith60gradeoilandsellit?? Rememberitsbettertobepiztoffthanpizton....Lol....

Fair ba, your missing the point, i didnt say that people do evil knievel style jumps in there 4 wheel drives, i stated that they use them for the purpouse of going out bush and returning in one peice, i drive the thing like a v8 is meant to be driven, i didnt say i thrashed it, if i did id have speeding tickets as long as the empire state building, see how you feel if your $60k 4 wheeler let an engine bearing go at 50000k's, but then again i guess you dont cry either
