Thumbs down More income, bigger fines !!

I was just watching ACA on channel 9.
Besides the cute story they did on the conjoined twins, they also said the government is thinking about implementing a new system where wealthier people get fined three times as much as people that earn under $30.000 per year.
A speeding fine for a poor person will be $75 and for a person that earns more than $30.000 (wealthy, yeah right!) it'll be $385 !!!

I personally think this system is bullshit and I think that everyone should pay the same amount of money for the same fine given for the same violation of the law.

What are your views ?

Hmm, looks like the road nazi state governements have gone from totally out of touch to completely over the top.

I can see a major party change in a few states next time around the merry go round.

You should have heard the goat that was proposing this, he was on ABC radio this AM. When questioned whether it would be difficult to determine poeples income, his reply was no problem it would be set based on the vehicle's market value. I nearly baffed my Mars bar at that one.

re: The Party changes, if they dont come soon I can see an increase in the publics desire to import automatic weapons. :

lmao love to see them try to live on our super high income of between 30k - 40k what a joke. Enjoy your 6 figure incomes and whilst your at it tax the average workers to hell and then add some more and if they break the speed limmit by1kph better slap a heap more tax (read fine) on that as well cause hell you need more revenue you just gave 2.1billion away

Its all about the revenue nothing more nothing less. wouldnt be to bad if it went back into the poorly maintained roads....

Did you pay attention in school?
They said people earning over $100,000 would pay $385, people earning an average wage would pay the standard $125 & people earning under $30,000 would pay $75. It works on a sliding scale just like taxation. :

Oops ! Well I did get distracted by my phone whilst watching it.
None the less, I am more outraged about the fact that people that earn more money, get bigger fines.
Just because people make $100.000 a year doesn't mean they don't care about getting speeding fines.
People with a higher income normally have higher expenses too, it's just bullshit that the goverment takes more advantage of them. Wealthier people already pay more taxes for christ sake.

It will be too hard to manage.

We all earn different incomes. Our situations are all different. What if the 30,000 guy is debt free and has no obligations, yet the 100,000 a year guy has 6 children, 4 different child support cases and is wearing debt from a bad marriage, and is on the edge of bankruptsy.. Who's to say the 100,000 is in any better of a position to pay the larger fines, than the guy earning the 30,000

Its too unfair.

Yeah but in Scandanavian countries they also have free health care and education.
I heard this idiot on triple J this afternoon also and he started talking about verifying income using tax returns etc, this would be pretty difficult to implement given that it would mean tying in state govt systems to the feds. NSW has ruled it out as they are planning an overhaul of the fine, er, revenue system in March.
Must be a slow news day if this peanut gets so much media coverage. All he needs to do is get Harold Scruby and the AMA onside and he'll get more coverage than the Iraq war.
regards,
Tote

Harold Scruby would be up for a bit extra if it was based on car values - he drives a Merc or BMW doesn't he?

so so VERY TRUE!

I think it's the stupidest idea ever. So what about the speeding fine I got Wednesday in the work van? They have no idea how much I would earn because they don't know anything about me. They gonna ask me "hey umm what car do you drive?"

You're definately right on that one. I remember an article on it. We wouldn't be the first country to introduce this then.

It's really just a way for the authorities to raise more money if it is implemented - the Vic govt has already stated it doesn't support this proposal.

It would work out just like the recent revisions to the way house rates are calculated - saying it is "fairer". All it does is make some people pay less, but the majority get shafted.

Has ACA ever ran a story based on fact? Next week it will be interest rates then petrol prices then miracle weight loss products blah blah blah.
I would rather watch Neighbours.
