For $23,990 drive away you get a dual cab ute, but its horrible for safety, the seatbelts had problems tensioning and the airbag deploys, but the person inside still smashes their face on the steering wheel anyways.

An update to this, I ended up buying a new run out LV TDCI Focus in 2011 and it fit my tools in it just fine, I just got rid of it a few months ago where its new owner also abuses it

Apparently on the utes if you want to turn on the heater you first have to manually turn on a tap in the engine bay. Then you have to get out and turn it off again if you want to use the air con....

...... but apart from all the absolute ignorant comments from those above who haven't sat in one, let alone driven one .... they are a hell of a lot better than nearly all 4x4 type utes built only a few years ago .... have complete Triton Mitsubishi drive line .... have increased to a 4 star rating ..... would have a higher safety rating than anything before AU .... most body components made by ISUZU ..... for the price of over 20k cheaper than some they suit some people

A lot cheaper than anything else out there and a hell of alot safer than 90% of other work utes out there that are more than 5 years old. If you are worried about safety ratings and drive a 10 year old car ..... ?

Don't own one but know of a couple being used as work horses and serving there purposes very well.

To bag something out through ignorance isn't a good thing ....

Saying its safer than a car released 12 years ago is hardly something to rave about.

The V240 seems by what I can find googling is 2 star while the X240 is 4 star (Same as Camry Hybrid)

Just a snap shot of some 1-3 star rated cars that some here might be driving at the moment. Of course these are only just a very few of them ....

CHRYSLER VOYAGER 2006
MAZDA MX5 1998
HOLDEN BARINA (2005)
MITSUBISHI LANCER (2000)
MITSUBISHI LANCER (2003-2007)
HYUNDAI ACCENT (2000-2006)
KIA RIO (2000-2005)
NISSAN PULSAR (2000-2005)
TOYOTA ECHO (1999-2005)
DAEWOO MATIZ (1999-2004)
DAEWOO LANOS (1997-2003)
MITSUBISHI LANCER - MIRAGE CE (1996-2003)
NISSAN PULSAR - VECTOR - SENTRA (1996-1999)
HYUNDAI GETZ (2002-2007)
FORD FESTIVA WD-WH-WF (1994-2001)
HOLDEN - SUZUKI BARINA - SWIFT - CULTUS (1989-1999)
SUZUKI ALTO (1985-2000)
MITSUBISHI MAGNA (2003)
HOLDEN COMMODORE (2001)
HOLDEN COMMODORE (2000)
FORD FALCON AU (1998-2002)
TOYOTA CAMRY (1998-2002)
HOLDEN COMMODORE VT-VX (1997-2002)
FORD FALCON EF-EL (1994-1998)
VOLVO 850-S70-V70-C70 (1992-2005)
FORD FALCON EB SERIES II - FALCON ED (1992-1994)
FORD FALCON EA - FALCON EB SERIES I (1988-1992)

Of course these ratings are taken on brand new cars ..... a 5 year old car would rate differently depending on the upkeep?

Wonder how many parts in all cars manufactured today has parts made in China, Taiwan, Korea or where ever else ....... there is a saying that involves glass houses and stones being thrown.

Apples and oranges, the safety ratings of vehicles built a few years ago are completely irrelevant. They are only relevant when comparing vehicles from the same era and anybody currently driving or thinking of purchasing an older vehicle should know that they are not as safe as a new vehicle.

Only the X240 has 4 stars, the SA220 and V240 only achieved 2 star ratings. Comparing apples for apples, a current vehicle that can only achieved a 2 star rating is nothing more than $24,000 worth of rubbish, especially when you look at ANCAP's page for the SA220 and the very first thing you read under 'Risk Notes' is 'High Risk of life-threatening injury in offset test'.

ANCAP Great Wall link: http://www.ancap.com.au/results/sear...anufacturer=47

My main point of that list is that many of those saying these cars are crap, rubbish, death traps what ever are themselves driving or putting their kids into a car that would most probably come from that list ..... hence the glass house and stone throwing.

There are Standards here in Australia that will only allow cars that comply and these are very strict. These do comply with these standards .... they may not be everyones cup of tea but they do suit some and are an option for some small businesses who do not want to fork out double for a similar ute or something that might be 10 years old ..... but then that should be fairly obvious I would think

Apparantly these great wall utes are loaded with MSG.

As much as I hate to say it I'd rather drive a Holden rodeo (similar price range) and I dislike them hugely.

My work bought a pair of Ssangyong Musso utes when they first came out many years ago, same deal heaps cheaper than anything else on the market. one was alright but the other one gave alot of trouble. Biggest problem was they were worth absolutely nothing when they went to sell them, no one would trade them in and no one would buy them privately. They ended up getting auctioned for next to nothing, I suspect Great Wall will have similar re sale value.

Have a closer look, they pretty much are a RA Rodeo, atleast in body/doors/tub/dash etc. Not sure where the driveline or suspension comes from but I have heard they lack a vit of grunt.... though in my book, every 4x4 lacks grunt so it's only degrees of badness for me.

Just wish they had of given the front clip some better treatment - I wonder if the RA panels/lights would bolt up??

As said above ... drive line engine etc Triton 2.4. Open the bonnet and even has the diamonds on it and not re branded.

And yes the RA panels are interchangeable. Mates got hail damaged and waiting for a new tub from Isuzu ...

look at it this way. u buy a toyota or nissan for 50k, after 3 years u will get 30k return if u look after it. thats 20k down
buy a great wall for 25k after 3 years trade for a new one , just keep updating every few years to new,as im sure private buyers wont touch them without any warrenty.
as for the quality,im in china right now, not many buy the great wall but from what i see they really put thier cars to the test on a daily drive. bad roads and crazy drivers

The tradies at work aren't too keen on them, a few older blokes have them, and don't seem to have any complaints. That being said, they also have no compliments. They're just a work truck.
I hate the ads though. The bloke touting his "great deal" looks like he copped a wallop to the eye.
