Actually about $2 a gallon, but that works out to be about 60cents a litre. Thats still half what we pay. Does anyone know how much tax they are paying on thier fuel in the US? I think we pay about 40% or so.

I filled up at a BP station yesterday morning... 102.7c/L. Just as I was filling, a staffmember came outside and changed the prices to 109.9c/L. Needless to say whoever filled up after me would've been ****ed.
$1.20 is a joke though, for *any* pump fuel! -Dave- |

Unfortunately a lot of it is not under the control of the Government unless they drop the taxes on fuel..
Reasons: 1) It has taken longer than expected for Iraq to settle back in 2) Venezuelan and Nigerian oil production has decreased due to political turmoil 3) OPEC has cut back on quotas 4) Standards of living are increasing in many countries which means more cars, especially China... But of course, we're not going to let a few $ restrict us from having our V8s eh.. |

Going home on Friday I was close to empty and came up to one of the BP's I usually fill up, omfg $1.26 Ultimate....I couldn't bear to fill up 60 odd liters, put in $20 and drove off. Luckily I didn't do much driving over the weekend and filled up last night at a respectable $1.16.

i havent heard anyone say they cant fill their car up, its more a case of not wanting to at these ridiculous prices. i have a 4cyl, and even filling that up is getting pricey. anytime the $ figure on the pump is ahead of the litres is never good! most expensive i've seen so far was ULP for $1.12c at a 7 eleven. Shell and safeway seem to be keeping their price "low" in comparison |

Paid 118.9 for ulp up at Bemboka near Cooma just before Easter, only got what I needed & filled in Cooma where it was a bit cheaper.
The part I don't like is paying GST on the fuel excise (tax on tax), that would make up 4-5 cpl alone. |

See, I don't get that saving 4c/litre on fuel crap anyway.
You have to spend $30 to save what... $4 at the pump. You are still $26 out of pocket. Up here, at a joint called Matilda, you can save 4c/litre off fuel, but you must buy a 2 litre milk and a loaf of bread. Your saving at the pump just got thrown out the window by buying that milk and bread. Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of.

The production from Oil in Bass Straight has actually been falling since 1985, it would no longer be able to hedge any sort of global oil price spike like it did during the 70s. Also, global economics has dictated that Canberra, or who is operating down in the gas fields in Bass Straight (Incidently AGL (an australian company) and Shell (a dutch company) are the big contenders, MobilExxon has a limited presence) have little say in the price of crude oil per barrel. The fact is, if you were in a business for profit, why on earth would you discount your domestic product when the global demand dictates a higher price? Why would you lose export sales? The price for oil in our region is usually set at the terminal gate price in Singapore. Besides this, Australian crude is more suitable for heavy lubricants and LPG purposes than light crude for petrol. We can make petrol from it (and do) but at a higher refining cost than oil operations in the middle east and US/Mexico. |
