Default Australia V South Africa

just thought i'd follow on from the aussie series, where the thread generated quite a good discussion.

even i wouldn't have predicted this start by australia. cut to the end, awesome little cameo by mitch johnson. unfortunately he got stuck at the non strikers end on 96 while the aussies lost the last 2 wickets.

good to see ponting finally get some runs, clarke has been in good touch and marcus north is starting in fine form.

466 in 4 sessions is a great effort. can't rest yet though as we've seen RSA are very capable of chasing down big scores and turning the match around.

RSA in a bad way....YAY!!

Not good to see out top order not performing though. Is good to see that Mitch is proving himself invaluable and a true all rounder.

Is Mitchell Johnson's score a record for a full time bowler?

Any statistic gurus on here know this???

Didn't Warney get a 99 in a test match?

this is bordering on a 1 sided contest at the moment. 6/143. hopefully, unlike our summer, australia can fully capitalize on this position.

Not sure how much, let's hope it doesn't effect the match too much.

And here comes the rain...

Quote:
"There's ridiculously loud thunder around right now, and just as ridiculous was the ground announcer's statement that there is technically a chance of more play this evening. There's as much chance of that as of Brad Haddin opening the bowling in the next innings."
You get the picture.

oh well, at least we're about a day ahead so hopefully we don't lose too much time due to weather. that would be our luck though. mind you we've been saved by the weather more than once or twice in our day too. puts99 will remind you of one just this summer

this 'challenge' system seems a bit of a joke to me. it was a joke when they first used it in eng v windies, and now here we see some controversy too. apparently hughes gloved one to the keeper, boucher and steyn appealed but given not out. couldn't challenge it as the relevant camera broke down. what a farce. apparently the 3rd umpire gets a different feed to the tv. why would that be. same thing happened in the eng v windies game. there was an lbw decision which was given out, was challenged and reversed even though hawkeye (i agree this is not accurate) showed it hitting the stumps.

boucher was also adamant he didn't hit it and duminy's was dubious as well apparently.

i guess thats the nature of cricket though isn't it. you win some you lose some.

Holy crap what are SA doing?!

Glad a new thread was made, it should be a good series - the winner of the this series will take the top spot in the Test rankings and the silly key/trophey thing.

Whats the weather forecast for today's play like? Heres hoping for rain! :P

well well well, south africa just don't lie down. 276 required with 8 wickets in hand is not a huge ask by any means.

the pitch was a bit up and down for the aussies so hopefully we see a bit more of that on the 5th day. these 2 teams sure do provide a serious contest.

the main criticism of australia was their ability to take 20 wickets in a match. hopefully they can stand up today and silence a few people.

Yes, and it's also great to see Hughesy get amongst the runs after the dissapointing first inings.
Should be a rivetting finish!!!!!!

If the wickets isn't doing anything watch this end in a very boring tie.

I might be a bit biased thinking that but I remember a few years ago, watching a game at the WACA against Sri Lanka (I think).

It was a 4th or 5th day and the Sri Lankans decided to play for the draw.

There was about 40 runs scored and no wickets in a whole day.

it nearly turned me off test cricket for forever.

Saffa have lost two quick wickets, I'm guessing they're going for a draw now - heres hoping they hang on!

With Duminy at the crease, anything is possible though.

yay, duminy goone!! boucher is the last hurdle. the bowlers can bat but you wouldn't put your house on them. boucher hasn't been in good touch.

this reminds me of sydney but at least this time smith isn't still to come.

aussies win by 162 runs. what an awesome effort by a team that was all but written off, and given no chance at coming close to retaining the no.1 tag. by my reckoning they only have to draw one of the next 2 to retain it.

i wonder if RSA went into the match a little too confident. they didn't thrash us over here. every match could've gone either way on the 5th day, but they did win the series so maybe they thought, being a home series, they would just walk out on the park and it would all just happen for them.

seems the referrals dried up in the 2nd innings too. maybe thats because australia finally get to play a test with the worlds best umpire standing in - mr s.taufel.

there is a long way to go, but in my opinion the pressure was and is all on south africa, this time around
they came over here finally believing that they could win and they obviously did. their problem is they have to do it all over again and considering it took around 16 years to do it once, twice in 4 months is a big ask
