Default 476kw LS9 HSV GTS-R....

http://http://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/corvette-heart-on-the-cards-for-476kw-hsv-20150820-gj447t.html

"HSV is set to go down in history as the producer of Australia's most powerful muscle car.

Not content to fade away gently at the conclusion of Australian manufacturing, insiders say the brand is working on a secret project to send-off its locally-made Commodore flagship with the heart of a heroic Corvette.

While HSV officially would not comment on its future model programs, it is understood to be working on a project to ensure that the final Australian V8 will "go out with a bang" by putting together a deal to transplant the supercharged 6.2-litre heart of the discontinued Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 into what would be the ultimate Australian muscle car."

"Introduced in 2009, Chevrolet's LS9 V8 looks set to be the engine of choice as it is similar in size to the Camaro-sourced LSA V8 used in the current Gen-F GTS – unlike the current LT-series engines that may not fit under the Commodore's bonnet.

Producing 476kW at 6500rpm and 819Nm at 3800rpm, the LS9 would represent the most powerful engine ever sold in an Australian-made car, outgunning Ford's final 351kW FPV GT-F by an order of magnitude.

While fundamentally similar to the 430kW motor currently used by HSV, the LS9 features several key changes intended to produce more performance.

It has a 20 per cent larger supercharger, titanium con-rods, forged internals and larger intercooler along with a race-ready dry sump lubrication system that keeps oil in a remote reservoir beside the engine rather than in a pan underneath the block.

Experts suggest local know-how acquired while developing the dry-sumped 7.0-litre HSV W427 of 2008 could allow the LS9 to go to work under the bonnet of the last Australian muscle car. It's also possible that the Brembo-sourced carbon ceramic brakes of the ZR1 could reappear on the final GTS, pushing prices beyond $100,000.

The catch is that such a model would be a thoroughly limited edition. General Motors is said to have limited stock of the LS9 engine, which could result in less than 200 examples of the ultimate HSV being produced, making it a limited edition in the same vein as the HSV GTS Maloo."

All just heresay until it's confirmed but seems pretty likely imo.
Nice send off for the HSV fans.

I wonder what it will dyno....

Nah just kidding, let's not turn this thread into a ***** fest which will end up getting closed and cause the mods undue hassle.

Wasn't the last Australian V8 the 308? Which was VT?

Or at the very least the AU T3 342ci Windsor. That was completely built in Oz.

Not just a crate engine bolted in and tuned.

The 253 (4.143 litre) was discontinued in 1985.
The 308 (5.047 litre) was reduced in capacity to 304 in 1985 to get under the Group A Touring Car limit of 5.0 litres.

The last locally manufactured V8 used in Holden’s ceased in mid 1999 when the imported LS varieties took over.

They were:
304 – (4.987 litres – 303.6 cu. in) in the VT SS & HSV Clubsport
And the stroked version
350 – (5.733 litres – 349.9 cu. in) in the VT HSV GTS

Drive must have just received their copy of Wheels magazine, it was all written up in that 2 weeks ago.
It does say it is still speculation and that the R8, R8 Maloo and Senator will be getting 395kw - de-tuned LSA from the GTS.
Base model Maloo, Clubbie and Grange to get 340kw LS3.

I have been told ALL HSVs will be supercharged... GTS to be higher tune and GTS-R is still a rumour

If it's not an Aussie cast block and crank etc. then it just doesn't count in my book.

Purposed to be Australia's most powerful muscle car, not sure it matters where the engine was made. Half of Falcodores are probably made in China.

Man I loved the VS GTS-Rs when I was a kid, best colour too! The VF HAS to be yellow, black massive wing and black wheels...

I reckon these will sell for two hundred thousand + like our final GTs.. Would be my pick if I was a holden guy anyway..

apparently FG chassis couldn't cope with a maximum tuned coyote, according to Ford PD. Something to do with the firewall being peeled away from the chassis due to the torque. Wonder if the VF chassis could cope with this level of power.

Unless the definition of bogan has changed to suit wearing, business owning, home owning execs, I think maybe you need to make a trip to Specsavers. Ive never meet or seen too many bogans driving the current Vf GTS HSVs. Quite the opposite in fact.

I see lots of bogan like comments though.

2 problems i see with that are the LS9 is only fitted to a Corvette, which has a transaxle and i believe the new ones are a 7 speed manual as well.

HSV's swansong Aussie supercar comes into focus as performance testing gets underway

You may have already examined the spy shots HSV wanted you to see, but this is the photo the Holden hot shop didn't want you to see.

Snapped by a motoring.com.au staffer just after dawn this morning in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, this is an image of what we understand to be the history-making HSV GTS-R W1.

Sources close to the project have indicated the vehicle in question will arrive in showrooms – at least a couple of selected ones before they all go to owners – in the second quarter of 2017.

Positioned one rung above the 'regular' HSV GTS-R, the W1 is expected to be powered by a monstrous 476kW supercharged V8.

And forget 0-100km/h times – this car will be about 0-200km/h and quarter-mile numbers.

Since it was being towed by a Holden Colorado Z71 very early in the morning heading south out of Melbourne in the direction of Holden's Lang Lang proving ground, we expect this W1 is about to undergo extreme performance testing over the next few days.

This pre-production model is our best look yet at what motorists will frequently see when the HSV GTS-R W1 hits the road – the rear-end as blasts away from traffic lights.

The most prominent feature is the aerodynamically-formed rear wing, which gets extra struts within its structure. Sure, they look cool but probably add extra rigidity, which will be useful at the high speeds the GTS-R W1 will be capable of.

HSV has plenty to hide... for now
This latest spy photo also shows the 2017 HSV supercar wearing psychedelic camouflage on its flanks for the first time too. The reason? HSV is has something to hide.

It doesn't appear as though the car has a wide body kit but clearly the company has added unique styling flourishes, which extend to the rear apron and presumably the front fascia too.

As we've reported, other unique W1 features will include non-adjustable Supashock billet dampers, more powerful six-piston AP brakes and unique 20-inch alloy wheels.

Powered by a 6.2-litre engine believed to be the Chevrolet LS9 sourced from the Corvette ZR1 supercar, it outputs 476kW and 820Nm in the 'Vette.

Expect similar numbers for this Aussie beast, which will be available exclusively with a six-speed Tremec transmission and should tap 100km/h in about four seconds and the quarter-mile in around 12.

Therefore it will be the most powerful, most sought-after, most collectible and potentially the most valuable HSV ever made.

Without doubt it will be fastest road car to ever wear the Holden Special Vehicles badge, a bittersweet fact considering it will also be the last Aussie-made HSV before its donor car, the Holden Commodore, ceases production late this year.

Despite an expected price-tag of around $170,000, HSV dealers are being inundated with cash deposits from customers keen to put their name next to a GTS-R W1, which will be limited to around 250 vehicles. The standard GTS-R will be unlimited.

What do you think? Will HSV's finest, final homegrown super sedan be worth it?
