Seeing as how you can get a 3d printer off Ebay now for under a grand and all sorts of colours of plastic feed stock (including glow in the dark material), this is going to be exciting stuff in the next five years!
I imagine they will also have some sort of a scanner unit eventually built in that means you can put in your small plastic component or part, scan it, then print it out. Imagine being able to redo or modify plastic parts from your cars interior! In glow in the dark plastic! As for price, well, who else remembers the astounding prices of laser printers when they first came out. Ordinary printers too have seen this happen with pricing. They used to be expensive bits of kit, but I just bought a great Epson printer/scanner/fax, with separate ink tanks and photo capable, for $150. I could have got one cheaper, but this one had some great features. The price of 3d printers will drop dramatically over the next five years, and you can just bet they will, industrially, increase in size markedly to make very large items. |

impressive. At the same time, disturbing for tradies as it could mean their jobs.

um... but is the house livable?
is the house structually sound... ie does it meet cyclone requirements? How will plumbing and electrical be incorporated into the house?

the implications for this technology are amazing. Interesting than they can use concrete to 'print' with.

I will not be happy until they can build a 3D printer that makes 3D printers....

This is very amazing. I was about to post about how the concrete pouring idea is flawed because, as an ex precast concrete worker, I know that concrete panels require reo bars running through them, but before I had the chance to post, the video addressed this
I'd like to see this happen, but I worry for all the tradies that will be put out of work because of it. Of course, it will create new jobs for people to run the machines, maintain them, transport them etc.

Still a way off i'd say. Not impossible, just not in the near future.
Sure the robotic equipment can do all the manufacturing of layed concrete walls, lifting and placing components etc in a controlled environment but its a different matter out in the field. There would be quite a lot of prep work that would need to be done in order for the equipment to function correctly and alot of monitoring while it operates. A controlled factory environment where this sort of equipment usually operates is much different than being out in the elements.
