Default Unacceptable Material

If we see something on this forum that we find offensive, instead of reporting it and it being left upto the Admin Team to delete it if they find it offensive, can we just start a thread, throw up a poll for a week and whatever the results of the poll indicate, have it dealt with that way?

Bucknaked

Some things to be actioned immediately, and hence is thus removed, most of the time it will have 20 views which means less than a 5 minute life span.

Reporting items do NOT go to the admins, but rather the moderator of that forum

Pms and MSN are however another tool used by members to advise mods or admins

I dont see what the issue is, and I certainly will not allow for material that breaches the TOC to remain public.

putting it all in one thread for it to be highlighted doesn't make much sense to me either Bucky

Bucky, I agree with the other two. Highlighting offensive posts are just like red rags to a bull. Do you know how many people would be offensive just to get the attention?

On another note, when people are banned, is there any way for the mods/admin to explain why? I understand that you guys have your reasons but it may be helpful to learn from another person's mistakes... I always wonder exactly how far I am from getting in "trouble" with some of the things I say _

what constitutes offensive stuff besides, bad insults, porn, overuse of swearing or abuse??
i didnt realise bad puns and/or jokes were considered offensive and a "thread closable" offense ?????

Stuff like porn (or links to sites that have porn advertising etc on them), generall not worksafe stuff (meaning things you shouldnt be looking at at work), racist or extremist etc will all be removed.

It is done on a case by case basis but for obvious breaches they are canned straight away.
For serious breaches the user who posted it will be sent a PM explaining why it was deleted and suggesting its not a wise idea to repost it.
On that point, ANY user who reposts something after it has been obviously removed by an admin or mod is looking for trouble - not a good idea at all to do this.

Deleted items are deleted entirely, they do not remain anywhere on the site. Once they're gone, they're gone!

If you see something that isnt acceptable or you have an issue with (i.e. it is offensive etc), use the "report post" button which is on the bottom left under the username of the person who posted it. Looks like a little warning triangle.

Sometimes I'll check up on a contraversial thread and it will be listed as being "Moved" (and that I can't access it). Is this a cover for saying the thread has actually been deleted, or is it moved to a mods/admin-only area for archiving or something?

And yes, I'll admit, if I see a thread with a lock sitting on it, I gotta read it to see why it got locked! :

No thread is deleted without it being seen by a few sets of eyes. The Admins will aways have last say on what is acceptable.

Sorry, I should've worded my post a little clearer. I meant how some threads are actually labelled as "Deleted" (with the thread title gone too), while other threads are lavelled as "Moved" and retain their thread title, however I (and I'm assuming other regular members) cannot access these threads.

I can still access other threads that have been moved. For example galaxy_xr8's thread in this section about highest posters.

Cheers,

-Dave-

*EDIT* nang3, if the mods/admin decide that a thread is a waste of bandwidth, it gets locked. Such as the joke thread which myself and others kind of canned :P I still found it funny though (funny in being not actually funny)...

Yet I still don't know why the song title thread is still up & running... The Forums Gods act in mysterious ways :lookedat:

I didn't see the problem, until the racist stuff got in there.

Some are moved to other sections, whilst other are moved to a moderator area.

Some are just deleted on the spot
