You could say its been put in our stock warehouse and forgotten about.
Strange that it has never been reported to Ford, they made us do ours once it was 12 months old.

When the business changed hands last month the new owners did a stocktake and found the final Falcon among the 200 or so other cars in the inventory.
“For us it was like a barn find because we didn’t expect to find a Falcon still in stock,” says general manager Alexi Sakellaris. “The previous owner was going to hang onto it but when he sold the business he said the Falcon would come with it, so there were no loose ends.” So reading the quoted text from the story as I have posted above, first of all they didn't expect to find a Falcon still in stock but then in the next paragraph previous owner told them the Falcon would go with the business. What a load of BS, LOL |

What I want to know is whether it is healthy for a car to sit and not be driven for 2 plus years.
By not starting the engine and driving the vehicle say once a week or every fortnight to ensure oil films metallic surfaces in engine and gearbox and differential and to coat various seals throughout a vehicle - is that mechanically wise. Which is better- to run a car and drive it 5 kms once a week for 4 years, or a car that sits idly for 4 years with no kms?

We started a tractor that had been idle for about 20 years. Biggest problem was all the birds nests getting thrown out of the exhaust stack. With a car I'd want the weight off the wheels though.

I think a few of the xr8's were "tested" at the factory before being released.

from my understanding when I took people on a tour of the Ford spare parts facility at Broadmeadows was that they have to hold parts for 6 years - could be company policy, but I didn't think so

That's not a barn find, that's long term parking at best

“ It has never been registered or driven, has just 58km on the odometer...”
If it has 58km on the clock THEN ITS BEEN DRIVEN

Out of curiosity, did anyone who wanted a Sprint when they were new miss out because they couldn't secure one?

Having been sold since that article was posted, I just hope that it went to someone who will appreciate it and cherish it for what it represents as apposed to some investor who only sees the dollar value in 20 years time.

So if the new owner has an insurance policy that includes 'new for old', what would the insurance company do?
Get something equivalent? In today's market, what is equivalent to an fgx xr8 sprint? |

Many years ago the company I worked for got 2 new Falcons/Faimonts from Ford every 6 months (swapped over), I had one given to me (an AU) that was nearly 18 months old with less than 100 k's on the clock - was buried at a dealer and they had forgotten it

Each to their own of course and no disrespect intended personally to anyone but if I had a classic late run Ford Falcon like a Turbo or V8 Sprint or one of the last 'normal' XR6 or XR8's I could not possibly bear seeing it sitting under cover for very long if at all .
Seems a travesty to have a car intended to be driven sitting around in a shed. |
