Not knocking the Penrite Trans oil , I use other Penrite Oils myself.
But I just had to install the third new set of engine mounts without using that ATF which was not available at my last Transmission oil change over 80,000 klms ago. I will give it a comparative look if the price is right and no one had had any issues when my next Trans service comes up in a couple of years time.

PENRITE.. Great oil for ZF.????
Fluids which cause Damage Penrite ATF SYN Automatic Transmission fluid was recommended for this transmission however in December 2010 Penrite released a statement to all customers stating that ATF SYN would no longer cover this transmission. Some workshops who continued to used the oil have reported the industry where it caused clutch squawk on shifting. (Download a PDF Version of Penrite’s Statement Here PENRITE ATF DEVELOPMENTS) To all customers and staff, As part of our commitment to producing the best possible product for every intended application, Penrite Technical Department has a program of continual range and product reviews. Over recent months this program has led to the expansion of our HPR, Enviro, PMO, and Power Steering ranges and a modification to our ATF range. Due to the availability of new technology, several products within our ATF range have been able to be upgraded to cover specs previously covered only by other products. This has meant that we will be able to offer a more concise ATF range while still covering more applications than most other oil companies. A new ATF application sheet is being produced and will be circulated as soon as possible. Two ATF applications that will not be covered at this stage are ZF 6 speed, and Mercedes 7 speed transmissions. This is because the technology that was used in SIN ATF that allowed us to cover these applications is no longer being manufactured anywhere in the world. This is the primary reason why we have deleted this product. The ZF boxes also have occasional mechanical issues. They are filled with a specially developed product that was a joint project between ZF, an oil company and an additive supplier. This fluid (Lifeguard 6) is the only product approved by ZF. The technology for this ZF approved fluid is not yet available to any other lubricant manufacturer and, as we cannot officially cover the ZF warranty with our existing products (including ATF FM5), we have removed this recommendation. It should be noted that at this stage only the original supplier to ZF (a major international oil company) can offer full warranty protection backed by ZF. We assure you however that if this technology is released, Penrite will be first cab off the rank with a new, warranty approved product at a very competitive price. Penrite provides a 100% guarantee on the use of our products in all applications recommended by us. We support our customers in all claims against component failure or incorrect performance. We provide every assistance to help our customers in determining the cause of any issue and in rectifying any problems found. This even extends to instances where it can be proven that mechanical problems are not the result of any fluid issue but are due to issues such as misuse, misapplication, poor component design, or poor service history. We give our assurance that this guarantee will continue to

I'm still trying to figure out how an Auto trans fluid ruins LHS engine mounts.

I can't remember if local 6hp26s used lifeguard 5 though. One ZF standard for BMW was esso LT711144 (on the penrite bottle) but I can't remember if that was LG5 or it's predeccesor for the earlier 5 spd. The other is Shell M1375.4 but that's for LG6 I think and not on the penrite bottle. I know I've read Ford motorcraft mercon sp or lv was used on US lincolns with the trans but that is also not on the penrite bottle. Anyway, my gut feeling is the 6hp26 should have LG6 equivalent (shell M1375.4) as most applications overseas either used that or switched to that spec. The penrite stuff meets LG5 but probably solely on viscosity, not additives. |

I'm being as dumb as usual. The '5' '6' is not cronological, it refers to speeds, so of course the 6hp26 requires LG6.
The penrite stuff doesn't say AT manufacturers rec (LG6), or doesn't list actual fluid makers spec (shell M1375.4) but not listing that is fairly common. It does list a main fitters spec (ford mercon LV). But it was the mercon SP that was specially for the 6hp26. The mercon LV is just a replacement when they ran out of the shell stuff, so take that into note. As far as I know locally only nulon LV and gulf western syn-TS LV mentions LG6 in specs, so that would be my preference anyway. |

So does anyone have any points (good or bad) on actually using the oil?
I bought 20 litres on sale at Supercheap for $200, but haven't actually used it yet, worth a try I guess. |

If you had already bought the oil your decision has already been made. Nobody spends $200 on a product, then asked the question what do people think about my choice. You probably wouldn't have liked my response to that either.

You are good at stating the obvious...
Nowhere did I ask anyone about my choice...I asked about other peoples experiences with using the product...then I told people what I was doing. I will use some at my next service and then I will post my results TO HELP people after I have used it. I already use aftermarket oils in my boxes so cant see changing brands making much difference. |

Make sure you put new engine mounts in. You don't want to break the old ones like the OP did when he first used the Penrite oil in his gearbox..
