Default EF/EL LED Dash Lights

Hey guys,

I've done some chasing through our suppliers at work over the past few days and found some coloured LED's that are a direct replacement for the globes in the EF/EL dash clusters.

I changed my dash over to these the other night and it looks s**t hot! I'll get some pics tonight when it gets dark. If people are interested I can sell them in sets of 6 (enough for the whole cluster) for about $45 plus postage. I haven't done the A/C unit yet, but once I've tried it in my car I'll be able to supply LED's for them as well.

I can get them in blue, red or white. It's probably a bit dearer than the way shown on the Fordmods site, but it's way less stuffing around, just a matter of replacing the globes and away you go, the LED's already have the resistors built into the base. If you don't own a soldering iron and aren't real handy with electronics these are the way to go.

If anyone is interested let me know.

Daniel

I'd be interested in pics of the LEDs too. I've never heard of any with built-in resistors (not in production anyway) but it wouldn't be necessary for this application. Interesting stuff.

Here's a pic. It's a bit brighter than that normally, it wasn't quite dark outside.

in my EA fairmont ghia i setup the cluster, A/C and the tripcomputer with blue LED's. you can pick the LED's (Monza Super L.E.D) up at autobarn, 2 for $10 and the colour selection is large, even rainbow coloured ones.
ill post pics later tonight

the fairlane and LTD clusters are different, i'm not sure how the lighting differs in those.
there is a doco on www.fordmods.com that might give you a little more info.

in terms of keeping the needles white, not really as it all uses the same light sources.

Damn, thats a shame it would have looked really good.

How do i find out what's different? I dont really want to pull the dash apart just to find out if they're different...

i've seen the dash mod done on a fairlane/LTD cluster.
so i imagine they're the same globe holders.
if so then it'd be exactly the same.
just depends if they use the same amount of globes and stuff.

Still haven't done my A/C unit, but anyone who wants a set PM me and I'll get them organised. Final price will be $45 incl postage to anywhere in Australia.

Would these be any good for my ED? I only got standard falcon Instrumentation at the moment but if anyone has a tacho model they want to sell me. also can anyone tell me when I put in a tacho/battery & oil gauge model how much will work straight out and what I would need to add sensors for? cheers.

I wondered that also, Tadka.

I've been told that I can only have red and not blue in my ED, is there any truth to this?

Yes, you could use red, but not blue. The orange colour of the earlier clusters filters out the blue light. If you look closely at the pic of my dash, you'll see that the redline, low fuel and high temp areas aren't very bright.

I was having a browse on FordMods last night, and from memory EA-D have an orange backing on the back of the needles which filters out the blue, you have to carefully scrape it off so the blue LED's will work.

Good morning Syrk.

The EA-ED clusters actually project light onto the front of the dials from memory where as EF-EL shine through the dials.

I get the disproportioned colors even with my standard dash. Its to do with the bulb placement, not that they're LED's.

for coloured bulbs you can by those slip on covers real cheap from any supercheap/repco type shop. I'll stick with them i spose. cant wait to get my hands on a cluster with tacho though. then I might get a white faceplate for it
