Hi guys...what is the current thinking on "Enthusiast Car Insurance".
I can save about $480 on a couple of cars, compared with my current "Shannons" insurance. Tried to phone them today, but only recordings were on. No personal contact. Comments welcomed. |

left Shannons years ago as they just didn't satisfy me whilst being arrogant.
Went to Ryno was a win win for a couple of mine didn't look back then some years ago their HQ changed their course to market ie dropping HSV/FPV/Tickfords therefore I found Enthusiasts some 5yrs ago. Not a problem - easy to deal with and good rates. I get return call or email and they get back to me. Just renewed both my Falcons minimal low k's P/A, salvage rights and happy agreed values. Thats my comments others may have different experience as there normally is.

I left shannons and went to enthusiast. Shannons wouldnt get anywhere close to a reasonable value on any of my cars whereas enthusiast straight up offered what i wanted with the option to go higher. I was also getting sick of Shannons wait times on the phone, and had a total joke of an experience with them claiming on the house insurance. Every time I've rang enthusiast ive got an aussie on the other end pretty quickly. I havent claimed with enthusiast so cant speak for that yet, but theres a couple of big downsides with them depending on your circumstances:
Named driver only. If your mate wrecks your car and he's not on the policy, too bad. Very few exemptions on this. Kilometre limit. You start with a certain amount, i think you can purchase up to 2000km? But if you wreck and youre over theres a big penalty. Seem to recall extra $2k. And if you wreck and your odometer reads less than you told them you started with, no claim. |

With the KMs on Enthusiasts, just do the right thing and if you need another 1000 or 2000 just ring and add it on for the year and they will pro rata it and it's not much for peace of mind.

Very easy to deal with as I mentioned. Jack91, re a mate driving your toy, well that just don't happen with me, its a sorry no mate uninsured not going to happen. KLM limit, well whats the prob ? damned if I'm going to compramise a policy and my name. Renewing the other week was can you supply current klms on both ? Yep let me get back to you. the T3 is in storage, so I said it hasn't moved since last policy, good thanks sir noted on policy. The Sprint, yes I drive it now and then, having checked to confirm, only did 1k over the year. Sir you currently have last policy 4Klm limit, in fact on both cars, considering only done 1K on the Sprint and nil the T3 how about we drop the minmal use to 2K And might I add you'll gain a saving of 1K on your policy. Oh great yes please go ahead. Win win there, and telling the truth you have no issues if and when the time comes doing a claim, nothing to worry about. The 4K limit I used to have was to cover myself in case I over used either what I nominated. I have find Enthusiast good as Shannons was way way back in the ol days and long before when they got bought out. Also as mentioned you speak to an aussie.

My car insurance went up by $200 last year and up 60% this year they want to screw me over with and i am over 60yo and rating 1 no claims !
So what is it, why am i being stung ! are you lot dealing with such increase ? I think we are paying because of all of the idiots who got their cars swamped ? because most people nowadays could not care less to bother to drive their car up the road to a hill so it will not be swamped ? I remember the days when people were prepared for flooding and would hop to it directly to save their belongings ! but nowadays people dismiss any help you offer, you say move your car etc up to safety and they just dismiss you. Same with bush fire, they have no regard ! one has to keep bush land has to be reasonable, but No ! so who is it that is paying for all this, people who do the right thing being stung ! |

I can't fault Shannon's. Always courteous, quick to answer the phone, give good guaranteed values for cars over 15 years old and multi-car discount (I currently have 7 insured).

I just received my insurance renewal from RACV. Over $1,600 for unmodified 2016 FG X XR6 non-turbo sedan with only option being choice of repairer. A few years ago it was just under $1,000. How can they justify such large annual increases???

Increased my excess from $1,000 to $2,200 and the cost of insurance dropped by more than $400!

My policy anniversary comes up next month, it covers most of my cars. My insurer wants 21% more for the same cover. No claims ever (yet?) with this firm, either for or against me.

Same deal here, last year my ute was $1962 insured for $34700 agreed with AAMI.
This year $2508, insured for $30800, both with 10k kms/year. Absolute scam. I got a quote from enthusiast insurance co. $1548/year but lower 9k kms. I really should take it up. Even though they did take a little bit of time to sort out for me.

Damn some mad figures of late but I am not surprised.
These companies are taking us/consumers for the ride - be it pre covid and natural disasters and post. Then add in the scammers they are reaping the reqards for lets face it what choice do we have, doing comparison's is getting harder as well. At least my 2 Fords at very low K use great deal through Enthusiasts but I'm baffled DJM83 at your Falcon quotes. Yep AAMI ridiculous. Enthusiast I'd jump onto no matter the bit of time getting back to you, all these crowds service is questionable today with less and less staff but I find them very good. Do you really use it up to 9/10k's p/a ? go lower reduce your out of pocket. I just checked my Macan policy with them to yours and man how baffling. Up to 10k Choice of repairer $2k.

The 2008 G6ET is currently insured (market value/comprehensive) with AAMI. The last premium paid back in January was $402.59. I didn’t think that was too bad.
As a comparison, the 2023 Y62 TiL Patrol (new at the time), same policy as above, was $926. I’d heard all sorts of horror stories of premiums being north of $2,500 so again, I didn’t think the cost of the policy for the Patrol was all that outrageous.

My SSV Redline is with Shannons on part use (twice a week). Mods covered (OTR Intake, Cam, headers, exhaust, tune) and customs aftermarket stereo install. Ive got agreed Value at $60k (though they would allow up to $70k). Was paying $120/month but just got my renewal and they are jacking it up to $135/month for the same.
Will definitely have a look at Enthusiast though, it seems like some happy campers here...

I went to a broker to insure my 6 cars.
3 on road, 3 under various stages of resto. Can't fault them, took the hassle out, plus they assist with claim management if required.

I am currently with Shannons but they drop the "agreed" value upon renewal and is at a point where I could not replace like with like in the event of a write off. I tried to get an agreed value quote on my AUII XR6 ute thru Enthusiast car Insurance. Filled out the online form and it was rejected.
Still with Shannons looking for an alternative.

Has anyone here tested Shannon’s on their “Emergency repairs” allowance? As in, performed repairs to restore safety or roadworthiness immediately following a claimable event.

The Car was a Mini that was parallel parked at night. He drove a short distance, check engine light and alarms etc came on, Pulled over and called BMW assistance the guy turned up and diagnosed the car had lost it's coolant. The Car was towed to the dealer and next day the dealer called him and told him the car had been in a minor accident. From what they could see they seem they think a vehicle with a towbar and no tow ball had reversed into his car and the tongue of the tow bar had gone through the grill and punctured the radiator and done other damage. He was emailed a lot of pictures and a quote to get the car roadworthy. He authorised the dealer to fix the car as he needed the car for work and had the car back the following day. I saw pictures of the front and you could hardly see any damage. When he tried to claim the mechanical repairs is when the argy bargy happened as Shannon's only allow a certain hourly rate for mechanical repairs and the dealer charges about double that rate. |

While nothing exotic i got agreed on the MPS, declared mods, limited 5000km which i use half of, and low excess, Enthusiast 75% of Shannons quote. RAA weren't 'enthused' shall we say.

Had to go through this rigmarole in the last 2 weeks for all our cars.
Enthusiast is only interested in insuring garage queens i found. Something that only gets driven once a month on a Sunday in the sunshine. And you have to provide a picture of the odometer every year and before an incident to prove you haven't gone outside your km range. Enthusiast wanted 35% to insure my car and 60% more to insure Dad's under the same circumstances. Went through quotes with a ton of insurers, big and small, and staying with Shannons was a no brainer. No one came close. The premiums are still a decent leap from last year, and the year before for that matter, but the comparative new policy quote exceeds make Shannons look good. Even insurers who promote themselves as cost friendly. |
