Question Advancing The Timing

Hey guys,
I run BP Ultimate and am interested in advancing the timing to get a bit more out of her. Could people who have done it give us an idea of how many more degrees you went and stuff.
Cheers...

In my EL, it was set to 4 degrees. I have since put it to *Roughly* 12 degrees. As I dont have a timing light, I cannot be sure heh. And it goes WAY better. Still gets around 600k's to a tank 50%local driving 50%highway, and has alot of traction issues accelerating from 40-60kmh on 225's good tread.

Edit: Note, the 1/4 mile time was done on the weakling 4 degree advance, I am looking at around mid 15's now.

yeah i wouldn't mind knowing how to do this. don't you have to short 2 terminals out in the diagnostics to get your base timing, then go from there?

To make the ECU learn the new timing (rather than just set back to stock) you must connect the first pin (Top left pin) and the one below it (Bottom left pin). make sure the wire stays connected on both. Then start her up - revs will start aroun normal 750rpm, but then will shoot up to 1,000rpm, then it will settle at around 500rpm (give it some time, and warm the car up before hand). Then you can adjust the dizzy (13mm socket, long extension bar, and a rachet). Once you set it where u want tighten up, turn off - take out pins, start up and drive aroun for about 50 kms to give it time to learn properly. then see how u like it... Adjust later as you wish with the steps above.

(Edit: The Pins you must join and behind the fuse cover, it should be a white unit with male pin connceters. Above the fuses)

if clockwise meaning, to the right of the pin on the block, then I thought it went alright when it was 4cms to the left of the pin (if facing to the rear of the car)...

i don't think my dizzy will turn anymore to even get into line with the pin mounted on the block, any suggestions ?

when i first put mine on a dyno, the guys checked the timing, and they came out, and asked if i had played with the timing... yea, and... its 18 degrees advanced, do you want it wound back... No thanks...

they put a knock sensor and it never pinged. same on a hot summers day, when under heaps of load...

make sure you run 98+RON petrol.

Yeah, I was always running Ultimate since it came out and only now changed the timing! What do mean about the knock sensor?

How do you go about advancing the timing in an EF? Is it possible?

18? Yikes! I have mine up around 14-15 now (we think), and even on 98 it pings on hot days :( It's fine on LPG regardless of temperature, but on 95 it pings it's bum off hot or cold weather. I'm retarding it around 3-4 degrees tomorrow haha.

this is eb pete here.

the rotor spins clockwise so from my calculations to bring the spark on earlier you would need to turn the distributer anti-clockwise so the rotor hits the piont on the dizzy cap earlier. please explain if i'm wrong.
