My mate just bought an EA and the house is 3km away.
It's unregistered atm. Do we really have to get a permit is there a limit on k's until you gotta get one? I rang up and they were $60. |

you do it for insurance reasons.
think about how hard it would be for a person to claim against you if an accident were to happen. a) pay the amount b) get a trailer c) tow truck brad

$60 isn't unreasonable.
Best to cover your rather than run the risk of being pulled up or something much worse happening.

Better to be safe than sorry. You can park a lot of cop cars in 3KM!

Remember with the permit, you should still get an insurance covernote.
Tell your mate to stop being such a stupid tight *** and not to risk it.

Difficult to get insurance with just a permit, but phone around and explain what you're doing and one of them will come to the party. I think RACV did my last one after some begging.

$60 is nothing compared to the fine you will cop if you get caught driving it.
Pay the $60 for some peace of mind and it will keep you out of trouble.

If the RWC is just a silly technicality, and nothing serious, then id much rather be driving it.

I recently sold a unregistered ute on ebay and the bloke is coming to collect it at the end of the month. He wants to drive it from my place in Victoria right up to Rockhampton QLD. How do permits work for something like this? Would he need to get a seperate permit for each state he passes through or is there a single permit that covers him through all states?

Single permit - I had a friend who did the same thing, though it was only to ACT. The permit lasts for 3 days, IIRC.
