Gday guys,
just have a small problem with the flash banners. they are constantly crashing all my browser windows... i use IE, and am in no position to change to an obviously superior browser like Firefox, but i have to make do with what i have. it says "Adobe Flash Reader 9.ocx" has encountered an error blah blah, something along that vein anyway and all my IE windows closed. i've currently disabled that plugin, but its a hassle, and want everything to work correctly... so does anybody have any ideas? cheers Henri

I have the same problem. Was hoping that updating from IE6 to IE7 would help, but it didn't.

There is a program called Spyware Blaster. In it you have the option to disable Flash in IE.
I just tried it then and the rest of the site still worked. Just a thought I had. |

I have it too, big time....
it is a known issue with flash9b, and there are numerous threads on dobe support forums... They are working on the issue.... In the meantine here are two tips to help... Only have one or two windows open OR Disable the flash module in IE so it doesn't run the banners...... Cheers

As mentioned, this is a very widespread issue, not just isolated to this forum.
Hopefully Adobe will pull a finger out and get to the bottom of it soonish. |

Hey mate I've had this problem too, and I have fixed it. From what I can remember you have to uninstall and reinstall, unfortunately flash doesn't remove all its files through their uninstall app, so you'll have to do it the long way.
First get the files msizap.exe from Microsoft and Uninstfl.exe from Adobe, I'm not sure where on the sites but search them and you should find. Reset your computer and make sure no flash stuff is running. Then when you have these files,: 1. run the uninstall command: %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /X{BB65C393-C76E-4F06-9B0C-2124AA8AF97B** /qb- 2. run msizap: msizap.exe T {BB65C393-C76E-4F06-9B0C-2124AA8AF97B** 3. run uninstlfl.exe twice using the following switches: uninstfl.exe -q -u flash9.ocx uninstfl.exe -q flash9.ocx 4. If %windir%\system32\macromed\flash\flash.ocx still exist, delete it manually Should work, then install the latest version. You should be able to find this fix on sites but its a bit hard to find. Here's probably a better one from another site 1. Use the uninstaller at Adobe's Web site following the instructions given here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowled...fm?id=tn_14157 2. Empty temporary files and internet cache and restart. 3. Download the latest FlashPlayer version 9 from Adobe's web site here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/downl...on=ShockwaveFl ash At this point check and be sure that you have a file named "Flash.ocx" in both your Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash folders, as well as the "Flash9.ocx" in the Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash folder. If you do, you have a good install. 4. Download Flash8.ocx from www.rrdownloads.net/Flash.zip (I suppose that file is buried somewhere on Adobe, but I couldn't find it; nonetheless, this link is a safe one) 5. Unzip the active x file into your Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash folder 6. In the same Windows folder, rename "Flash9.ocx" to Flash-9.ocx (or anything else) 7. Then rename the Flash8.ocx (from the downloaded zip file) to Flash9.ocx Restart et voila ... no more crash errors. Caution: This fix has worked for me on a WinXP Pro and WinXP Home O/S, running IE6. I cannot vouch for any others. I hope it works for you! Good luck. It really annoyed the hell out of me. (And print out the instructions, makes it a lot easier ) |

Same issues as everyone else (IE7 Vista). I tend to open new tabs from the main page of all the sub forums I want to visit and this is when dramas occur. You can ride your luck a bit though, sometimes it wont crash for a while, other times its the moment you open a 2nd window.

Just loaded Vista and several browsers and have not had a problem, no help to you but I am happy.
