What is the best Falcon model in your opinion?
Of course newist best in that simple regard but I'm talking which Falcons really impressed you, changed the local market, made you just want it etc? For me the B series (T and 8) was a huge step up in looks and performance options over A series. I'm sure many from years back did similar. Yours? |

First car I owned was a VB Commodore SL/E. I was happy with it, but about 8 months after I bought it, I met a bloke who had just bought a brand new XE S pack. The extra interior space, and the looks won me over almost immediately.
So, for me, the XE as it converted me to Ford.

I always wanted an XE Fairmont Ghia ESP, V8, manual transmission, with two tone sports pack, and all the fruit (electric windows, premium sound system, etc). I could never afford one back then (and certainly cannot afford one now).
From an engineering perspective, I think that FoA work on the BA Falcon Turbo was its peak. |

Great car but silly faults like my Turbo blowing due to very poor engineering - once I put in an Earls line ran perfectly. |

Its much easier to consider the worst than to pick a best in my opinion.
I remember getting around in Dads XY and XR back when I was only a wee tacker and loved them, then he bought an XD and I have fond memories of the warm seat fabrics on a cold night driving home after a get together. I remember the day he brought home a white XE s pack as a demo and begged him to trade the XD on it but unfortunately it never eventuated. Then one day a family friend rocked up in his brand spankers 88 XF S pack in white and I was hooked, when everyone else growing up in Elizabeth had a love affair with white 5.0 VL Calais I yearned for my own XF S pack or Ghia and owned a few of each over the years and although the Calais was still high on my list, I just never pulled the trigger on one for some reason. With the exception of XB I've owned every model from XA to BF3 and if I had to pick one to drive interstate tomorrow it'd be an AU hands down, I think they we're the best of everything the Falcon was about, relatively simple in tech but as tough as nails and reliable beyond comparison for a locally made car. |

No not really,
I’ve had plenty of them up as far as FG and they don’t excite at all They’re reliable transport, no question but put them in a rear wheel drive Camry type basket

I think there is 1139 other threads with the same question. And everyone agrees that their favourite is the best.

For me, the top of my list is the Bseries, especially the Turbo FPVs and XR6T.
Second was the XE S pack and ESP.

I drove both the 8 and 6T and decided on the latter. Just being honest the AU was not even on my radar as so ugly (Just my opinion) But i love the much older Falcons too! |

I found my AU to be a great car. Was my very first brand new car. It is still chugging along with my sister in law but is looking pretty second hand. She has always been rough on cars as opposed to me who keep them in top nick. However the pick for me would be an XA GT sedan. I just think they look so lithe and yet tough.

Was the GTHO a Falcon brand?
Don't get angry at me as I'm thinking similar to FPV Last edited by MercuryT; 16-03-2020 at 10:07 PM. |

AU Fairlane - that IRS setup is gold.
What convinced me was I drove one through a paddock and it was a lovely drive when I was expecting to need to put on a sports bra to keep my manboobs out of my face |

The Fairlane isn't such the ugly bastard child that the Falcon was at least, it doesn't have the ridiculous face and *** rounder than a Brazilian woman.
If anything it's a bit old man - think of Cav if he was a car |

I might be the only one who says the EL.. but I'm biased, I've had 3 of them.
I did quite like AU, obviously the nicer ones.

XC GS 351 was my best and favorite car I owned including all other non ford brands , but I would love a XC cobra 351 manual above all else personally

Value wise, performance wise and included option wise, I reckon XR50T anniversary edition.

Best at what?
The B series really got things back on track but that IRS system is a joke. Always laugh when people bag out AU's yet they didnt suffer technical issues like the B series. If you want the best overall, for me there is nothing better than the T3. If you could do something about the rear end (Im sure there are aftermaket options, and I dont mean just different bushes) then the FG F6 wins. Id say Sprint XR6 but no manual option is a real shame IMO. Hard to compare cars from different era's, you seem to have a few distinct groups IMO, XL-XP, XR-XC, XD-XF, E Series, A Series, B and F Series. Even then you could part out XR-XY perhaps. No need to have "bests", so many good examples but even the best have flaws.
