Hey All, Got my car booked in (EF Green Wagon) to get the windows tinted.
Should I go with the basic black darkest legal or the reflective type darkest legal? Any personal experiences and or photos would be good. Thanks |

I dunno about QLD, but in NSW any reflective tint is illegal as far as I know. So if you want it to be legal, then get it checked first.

Go the dark colour black or charcoal, the reflective flim that is legal is not very dark in bright sunlight, is good on overcast days but in the sun looks like you havent got tint.

I was told with all commercial vehicles the rear window can be as dark as you like .... so got 5% on the rear window of the ute. 35% didn't look dark enough (I have that on the Territory) ... so i asked for the 20% .. the tinter showed my 20% on his Bombadore ... and it looked nice ... so i got it. Looks so much better than 35% ... i don't think 35% blocks enough in our Summer sun anyway.

I was told the mirror tint was illegal as well. But that could just be in NSW. I'd be going a nice dark black. In fact I will be when I get the XR6 tinted.

anything darker than 35% is illegal.
knowing insurance companies will do anything to get out of paying a claim, i would hate to have a claim knocked back because of an illegal modification. the small business tinters that are willing to do darker than 35 in Perth wont give you a receipt cos they know its illegal, you'll find that places like tint-a-car, solace etc wont do past 35% |

Gee the dark black (20) looks nice looks great on Fairmont Krissy's car. But the legal side does concern me a bit not so much getting pulled over but the insurance companies knocking back claims as rich077 suggested does. The reflective tint i was shown was legal apparently and the only reason it is appealing is that it is supposed to keep the car cooler by letting less heat in. I am in Brisbane and the place i am going to go to is Tint Mart. www.tintmart.com.au
Thanks for all your feedback and pictures its great |

hey mate, i havent actually seen any claims being knocked back but i can see this as being a possibility especially a young bloke with a decent car who is at fault in an accident.. there is an insurance guy on this forum who may or may not agree with me on that one....
i guess its up to you at the end of the day. best of luck with whatever you go for.. by the way, I had a heritage green EL Futura prior to my current car with 20 grade tint and it looked real good maybe a little too dark because of the smart-tint making it look just that bit darker. Maybe think about 35 grade on the sides and 20 at the rear?? |

Well, reflective tint keeps the windows cooler (reflects rather than absorbs), but I'm pretty sure it's illegal.
On the topic of wagon tint though- is it possible to have 5% tint on the boot windows (in front of the back window, behind the passenger windows)? |

I've got Metallised tint on my company car and I reckon it's better than the straight black stuff. Be aware that it does effect the efficiency of the radio antenna on BA's though, but it would only worry you if you were a long way from the transmitter. It's also legal in NSW.
Regards, Tote
