Best bet is to go see NRMA or call them. Only they know the exact limits with the policy, so best to be safe than sorry...

Uusally NRMA will specify no more than 30mm than original height. Thats what they told me for my old EF, our AU, and my focus.

True. I was told that also. Although, remember that "original height" is the height of the base model vehicle. So, in my case it is the AUII XL (?) ute.
I dont know if different fiesta variants are different heights, but you will have to work that one out as well... |

I called around when our insurance was due, asked about lowering, wheels, etc. The only 'mainstrem' company that was ok with it all was RACQ, 30mm was fine, as long as it was still legal (lowest part of car 100mm in QLD) and they worked out the cheapest too

I'm with NRMA, and they dont have a problem with lowering as long as you dont lower more than 30mm and the car is still street legal, you'll be fine.

Be careful with getting verbal approval for such mods over the phone. I recently did the right thing and got approval prior to a rim upgrade- was told it would cost an extra $4 per month for $2800 worth of rims- no problems I thought so I bought them. I then rang back after getting the rims to get them added onto the policy and was told NO WAY they would insure the car with them. Bascially they called me a liar as I couldn't give them a quote number ( I had asked for one at the time and was told just to quote my current policy number.....)
After a very heated argument they offered a $10 per month increase and a $500 excess increase! WTF?!? I then told them I wanted to speak to a supervisor- he wanted to know who I spoke to (I couldn't find the details :( ) but told him what day and roughly what time I rang. He called back about two hours later and had found the recorded conversation- and agreed I wasn't lying and had been told that price. Finally they honoured it, but at renewal time I will most likely get shafted again. BE CAREFUL!!

I am insured with NRMA with exhaust, lowering springs, tint and Air filter. I am on a company fleet insurance polict through my Dad's work, when I called up the guy, he started asking me what kind of car I had and then got all excited and told me his brother was doing up a hot 2 litre Escort! They don't seem to give a toss and it doesn't cost me a cent extra. But private insurance might be different...

When I was getting quotes between Clio 172s, 182 Cups and Polo GTIs... the guy wouldn't let me get off the phone! Was asking me heaps of questions about why I wanted one or the other. Weird With regards to the mods - they had a little technical stuff, but as long as my wheels and suspension complied, they were fine with it. Funny thing was when I went to tell them they are optional Ford Alloys, and surely they'd meet the criteria, they didn't give a toss. The girl basically said "Is it this width? If not, we can't insure it". This was the day of picking up the car, and obviously I didn't know about this site. I was like "They are Ford Accessories" and her reply was always "So, are they this width?" So yes, they have a strict guideline. Best call them. And as mentioned, get a quote number or something... ALWAYS record EVERY detail. Time, Duration, person spoken to etc.

Apart from not replacing the mod if you crash what other consequences are there if you don't report in to the insurance company?
