I'm just glad we didn't have that same BS thread, about changing the flag this year.

Recently fitted a fabric covering to the rear cabin wall of our old V8 WB ute...did I pick plain black carpet? Nope...

Speaking of the flag, it's a shame people don't fly it more here...and also a shame that people face criticism and ridicule sometimes for doing so. When we were in the states, we saw the damn flag everywhere...flying on houses, flagpoles in front yards, stickers on cars, flying everywhere proudly. Needs to be more of it here. A lot more.

Our flag means different things to different people and for as long as that is the case, it will remain for many a symbol of division... which is really unfortunate.

As a matter of curiosity, why do you think we need more flag flying?

To show you're proud of your country, instead of "cringing" about something or other. Patriotism is a much underrated quality in Australia...we laugh at people with the southern cross or an Australian flag on their car...why? So what if a few bogans have them...everyone should feel proud to live where we do and display that pride.
In the USA they aren't ashamed to show it...even if they disagree with something their country has done, they still proudly wave the flag everywhere.

We've had so much of the philosophy that "but we're a multicultural society" rammed down our necks, and being told not to be too patriotic in case it offends someone, that a lot of people forget that it's perfectly OK to be proud of your country, purely for the reason that you live there. You don't have to like the government, you don't have to like politicians, but the flag should be above all that. People who have strong pride in their country and flag are the sort of people who demand better from our elected leaders to honor that pride and respect for our country.
People who feel ashamed or embarrassed about our flag and country will accept any old bollocks from our politicians that will change our way of life and country in the name of "looking to the future" or "change for changes sake".

The old saying "Love my country, hate my government" says it all...love of country, pride in who we are, and flying the flag are outside of the political process...and more people should realise this.

Nothing annoys politicians more than proud, flag waving people who, when those politicians try to do some sneaky crap or take away liberties and freedoms (are you listening, Newman?), are prepared to stand up and say "You're not doing that to my country!!". They would prefer a brainwashed populace who feels ashamed of their country or guilty in some way about the place, because people like that will allow them to get away with anything.

Fly the flag!!!!
